Playing With / Collective Identity

Go To

Basic Trope: Several people share the same public identity.

  • Straight: Sam, Carol, Jo and Alice are all fighting crime in the guise of Tropegirl.
  • Exaggerated: Tropegirl's identity is used by millions of women across the world.
  • Downplayed: Sam and Carol take turns as Tropegirl.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: To confuse the enemies, Sam fights crime as Tropegirl, Amazing Lady, Miss Death or Black Mamba, depending on the day.
  • Subverted: "Tropegirl" seems to be several different people, but it turns out that they're all clones of Sam connected by Hive Mind.
  • Double Subverted: The clones break out of the Hive Mind and become their own persons, albeit they still fight crime as Tropegirl.
  • Parodied: Everyone's the Janitor. The Janitor is everywhere. You can't escape the Janitor.
  • Zig Zagged: Tropegirl is a collective identity used by Sam and her clones. Over time, the clones become their own separate beings, but still continue to fight as Tropegirl. Until each decides to get their own code names and leaving Sam the only one using the Tropegirl pseudonym. Then, Sam creates a new set of clones, and rinse, lather, repeat.
  • Averted: There's only one Tropegirl.
  • Enforced: The creators want to have Tropegirl have many adventures in different parts of the world, but realize that Sam is not rich enough to afford it, so "Tropegirl" becomes an international pseudonym.
  • Lampshaded: "So just how many Tropegirls are out there?"
  • Invoked: Sam actively recruits other Tropegirls.
  • Exploited: Sam, Carol, Alice and Jo all harass a villain to make it seem like he's losing his mind and sees the Tropegirl everywhere.
  • Defied:
    • Sam trademarks the Tropegirl and sues anyone who dare use the identity.
    • Tropegirl's powers rely on Phlebotinum only Sam has.
  • Discussed: "She's everywhere!" "Really? Maybe there's simply more than one?"
  • Conversed: "I've found this new show and it's about group of girls who all pretend to be one superheroine."
  • Implied: While infiltrating Tropegirl's lair, Baron Evulz finds several dozen Tropegirl costumes, with few missing from their hangers.
  • Deconstructed: It's difficult to coordinate actions of several vigilantesses and they end up bumping into each other or even outright sabotaging each other's efforts.
  • Reconstructed: Nevertheless, after the few hiccups in the beginning, the Tropegirl works in harmony (albeit not without some bickering).
  • Played For Laughs: When on patrol, two Tropegirls bump into each other and start to argue which one is the "correct" one, causing one of criminals one of the Tropegirls has been trying to arrest to panic, screaming about clones.
  • Played For Drama: Bob is the Love Interest of Tropegirl Sam, but one night, he meets Tropegirl Carol and, not knowing that there are several Tropegirls, tries to talk to her, only to be brushed off as yet another civillian. This puts a strain on his relationship with Sam.
