Playing With / Cats Are Superior

Go To

Basic Trope: Cats are arrogant and believe their species is the best.

  • Straight: Alice the cat believes other cats are her equals, but humans, mice, dogs, squirrels, etc are her inferiors, so she has an It's All About Me attitude when around any species except other cats.
  • Exaggerated: Alice and all other cats, from the time they're kittens, believe that they're the only species worth anything.
  • Downplayed:
    • Most, but not all, cats believe this.
    • They only believe they're slightly better than all other species.
    • Alice is a Tsundere cat; acts like an arrogant cat who behave like King of Beasts, but still loves her owner affectionately.
    • Cats see themselves as superior to the bumbling humans who look after them, but don't really think of their relationship with any other species in a hierarchical way.
  • Justified:
    • Cats are in fact objectively better across the board compared to the other species.
    • Alice is Surrounded by Idiots; no wonder she thinks her species is best when every other animal she has met is a bumbling fool.
  • Inverted:
    • Cats believe they're the most inferior species.
    • All species except cats believe their own species is best.
    • Alice the cat is comedically submissive, cowering before even a mouse, believing herself to be inferior to everyone.
  • Subverted: Another cat, Bob, does not believe cats are superior to other species.
    • Cats are mistaken for haughty when it is essentially a case of Values Dissonance - their body language looks arrogant when if anything they are more paranoid and insecure.
  • Double Subverted: He's the exception, not the rule.
  • Parodied: Alice acts like she's the queen and her owners are her servants.
  • Zigzagged:
    • Alice has an Inferiority Superiority Complex.
    • Some cats are arrogant about their species, some aren't.
    • Cats believe they're superior to some species, but not others.
  • Averted:
    • Cats do not believe they're the superior species.
    • Cats don't appear in the work.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Why do cats act like they're the best species in the world?!"
  • Invoked: Alice convinces all other cats that they're the superior species, using propaganda.
  • Exploited: After using propaganda to convince the other cats that they're superior, Alice uses them as her army to Take Over the World.
  • Defied: Alice decides to see all animals as her equals.
  • Implied: Cats are seen walking with smug expressions.
  • Played for Drama: It's treated like Fantastic Racism.

Now you shall go back to Cats Are Superior and respect the all, mighty and powerful king. Shnookums!
