Basic Trope: A bullet headed for a character moves in an unnatural way to avoid hitting them.

  • Straight: Alice grabs a gun and aims perfectly at Bob, but the bullet moves around him.
  • Exaggerated: Alice shoots Bob with an assault rifle, and every single bullet changes direction to avoid hitting him.
  • Downplayed: The bullet only tilts its angle mid-air a tiny bit, and it's just enough to miss Bob.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • Dodge the Bullet
    • Alice aims poorly, but the bullet changes direction to hit Bob.
  • Subverted: The bullet goes around Bob... but then turns back to hit him after all.
  • Double Subverted: The bullet changes direction at the last second during the return trip to miss Bob yet again.
  • Parodied: The bullets, once facing Bob, immediately start flying away, and Alice could hear faint cries of "Oh hell no, I'm not going towards HIM!!!".
  • Zig-Zagged: The bullet makes several turns and near misses around Bob before finally deciding whether to hit him or not.
  • Averted:
    • Bullets behave as they do in real life, so they never change direction after being fired.
    • No one uses ranged weapons.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "What was that? Did the bullet just... turn away on its own?"
  • Invoked: Bob learns telekinesis so he can force bullets to miss.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
    • Alice sneaks up on Bob to shoot him before he can use his telekinesis.
    • Bullets have a mind of their own, but actively decide to never change course during a shot that will hit its target.
  • Discussed: "Telekinesis has plenty of uses, Bob. For example, you could force a bullet to miss you".
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: ???
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed: Bob trains to improve his superpowers, allowing him to use telekinesis on as many bullets as necessary at the same time.
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: ???
