Basic Trope: A violent and/or Badass New Yorker.
- Straight: Flash Young is a thuggish Barbaric Bully who's from Brooklyn with a Hair-Trigger Temper and a powerful frame to go with it.
- Exaggerated: Flash is the World's Strongest Man and the World's Best Warrior, while at the same time being one outburst away from a cardiac arrest due to a life of constant violence in Coney Island.
- Downplayed: Flash is only a rough and tumble Boisterous Bruiser who isn't the best at fighting, but he often has a cool head on his shoulders, and is only saying he's from Brooklyn while actually being from Manhattan.
- Justified:
- When you live in The Big Rotten Apple, you tend to adopt the same mentality as the rest of your fellow citizens there.
- New York as a whole in The '70s and The '80s was pretty much Metro City in real life. You had to either learn to fight or develop thick skin, or preferably both, if you wanted to keep breathing.
- Inverted:
- Gentle Giant Flash is from Coney Island, yet is the nicest guy around, who wouldn't even dare hurt a fly.
- Flash is from Minnesota and is a pretty swell guy.
- Flash is from Minnesota but is a completely Ax-Crazy brute.
- Subverted:
- Flash is only a Boisterous Weakling; Despite his thuggish and short tempered demeanor, only a single shove can make him beg for mercy.
- Flash is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
- Flash is only pretending to be from New York; He's actually from Minnesota.
- Double Subverted:
- Flash became more of a badass than he was before.
- Flash is actually a Jerk with a Heart of Jerk.
- Flash's parents are from New York; The aggression, which they were known for, was hereditary.
- Parodied: New York has an inherent (though non life threatening) disease floating around its airs that turns people into some of the most despicable hate sinks, scrappy jackasses, complete monsters, and other wretched characters, with Coney Island in particular being the source with its ludicrously high content of the NY Rage disease.
- Zig-Zagged: Flash tends to be a really vapid mood swinger, and while he's definitely a New Yorker, it's hard to pinpoint what borough he's actually from.
- Averted: Flash isn't from New York and isn't too aggressive or badass at all.
- Enforced: The work was originally from Japan, and Flash was originally The Idiot from Osaka. The dub director was given two options for the Accent Adaptation: A Deep South Half-Witted Hillbilly, or this trope. Considering it'd be extra weird if the guy with the obnoxiously huge pompadour and clothes that could've easily been stolen from the wardrobe of The Warriors speaks with a thick drawl as if he were from a rural, backwater farmland, they opted for this trope instead.
- Lampshaded: "Look, I know that it's a stereotype for fellas like me t'be rough and brutish, but... Considerin' this is New Fuckin' York, the actual fuck do ya expect!? For me t'be some happy-go-lucky schmuck!?"
- Invoked: Flash is told that if he were soft for even a second, he'd get gutted, mugged, drugged, and raped brutally (yes, in that order) in New York, which thoroughly convinces him to be a tough guy.
- Exploited: Flash can easily pull any sort of Obfuscating Stupidity trick on anyone due to everyone thinking he's just some Dumb Muscle who can be exploited easily.
- Defied: "I am not going to be some random tough guy who acts all 'I'M WALKIN' 'ERE!', that's stupid."
- Discussed:Bob: Hey, why are you acting like New York's so bad? I've been to Manhattan before, it's not THAT terrible!Flash: Speak for yerself, fuckstick! Fulton Street, Manhattan!? That place ain't shit! It's soft for tourists such as yerself! Yer honestly so fuckin' lucky ya never visited Coney Island, fuckin' softie. An' don't get me fuckin' started on New Fuckin' Jersey, those wannabe tough nuts!
- Conversed: "I get that New York's a complete fucking dumpster fire, but does he seriously have to act like it's the literal bowels of fucking Satan!? Man, these writers should visit other parts of New York instead of focusing solely on Brooklyn. Y'know, like Fulton Street, Manhattan."
- Implied:
- Flash, in a purely visual (and completely non-auditory) work, contracts most of his words. It's unknown whether or not he's drawling or speaking in a Brooklyn accent.
- Flash is stated to be a tough nut from an urban hellhole. We don't get much information about him, or even see him in person.
- Played for Laughs: Flash is a comic relief character, whose source of humor comes from his hometown. Particularly the fact that it's a Place Worse Than Death. His catchphrase? "At least it ain't Brooklyn."
- Played for Drama: Flash is portrayed as an angry, violent thug, but considering that New York has nothing to offer but lunatics trying to either stab, mug, drug, or even rape him from left, right, and center, could you really blame him?
- Played for Horror: Flash is perfectly willing (and even has done) some of the most horrific crimes known to man, and it just goes to show how The Big Rotten Apple can corrupt people.
The fuck are ya doin', fuckstick!? Here's the main page, now scramble like an egg before I fold ya like an omelette!
