Basic Trope: A character uses a bow or crossbow and a sword.
- Straight: Richard uses a sword and a bow as his weapons of choice.
- Exaggerated: Richard uses a BFS and a longbow at the exact same time (he pulls the arrow back with his teeth)
- Downplayed: Richard has a bow and a sword, but only uses a bow when he has no other way to reach his enemy.
- Justified:
- Richard has a very long lifespan, giving him plenty of time to master both a bow and a sword.
- Richard needs to have options for fighting both in close quarters and at a distance.
- Inverted:
- Richard has proficiency with every kind of weapon that exists in his universe, and switches between them on a dime, except for a bow and sword.
- Richard uses a sword that magically returns to him after he throws it, allowing him to fight at both close and long ranges without changing weapons.
- Subverted: Richard is seen polishing both a sword and a bow, but only brings the sword with him.
- Double Subverted: ... Because this is a close-range duel in a gladiator ring. Next battle, he goes for both long- and short-range kills.
- Parodied: Richard uses one of the weapons with his teeth.
- Averted: Richard only uses either a bow or a sword.
- Enforced: "Swordsmen are cool. Bowmen are cool. Can anybody say how we get somebody twice as cool? An obvious answer. Writers, you know what to do."
- Lampshaded: "Sir Richard, may I be honest? They say to prepare for everything, but you may be overdoing it a bit."
- Invoked: Richard searches for veterans specialized in dual-weapon fighting who can teach him use both these weapons at once.
- Exploited: Said veterans put a very high price on their lessons.
- Defied: "I may be proficient with these two kinds of weaponry, but that is no reason to get cocky and show them off at the same time!"
- Discussed: "Sir Richard is so cool! How did he learn how to do that thing with both a sword and a bow?"
- Conversed: "I wonder if any of the writers actually knows how hard that kind of dual-wielding would be."
- Deconstructed: Richard is killed by his own weapon when an enemy manages to rip it out of his hands - he cannot fight back as easily when his other hand is taken already.
- Reconstructed: Richard can shoot or stab the enemy before they can do anything with his weapon, then picks it back up and keeps fighting.
