Basic Trope: The usual Betty and Veronica love triangle that later on becomes a subversion where the supposed "Betty" is becomes more of a "Veronica" and the supposed "Veronica" is becomes more of a "Betty".

Alice is fair-haired, modestly beautiful and presents herself as a kind-hearted, put-together every girl and Carol is dark-haired with a more curvy, well-developed body, speaks in a sexy, low contralto, wears skimpy stylish clothing, lots of makeup and is the leader of a Girl Posse. In actuality, Alice is a Tsundere who loves to constantly lead Bob on and Carol is a well-meaning Class Princess who gets along well with Bob and everybody else.
- Exaggerated: Initially and at first glance, Alice is a bookish Bespectacled Cutie who wears pastels, is the top student in all class subjects, always has a humble smile on her face and talks about seeing the good in everything and Carol comes from a very rich family, wears short figure-hugging dresses, high-heels and stockings, almost always seen admiring herself in a compact mirror, has flirted with a few people from time to time and has every implication of being an Alpha Bitch. When in reality, Alice is an aloof, snarky Academic Alpha Bitch in sheep’s clothing who has a long range of boyfriends and only cares about keeping all the men and boys at her beck and call and Carol is a Spoiled Sweet All-Loving Heroine who volunteers at retirement homes, hospitals and homeless shelters, picks up trash, sets up rallies for equal rights, takes care of animals and babysits.
- Downplayed: Bob thought Alice was a Nice Girl, but she leans more into being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold and thought Carol was an Alpha Bitch, but she leans more into being a Lovable Alpha Bitch.
- Justified: Alice was raised by education parents, making her more and more of a snarky jerkass, while Carol was raised by two disgustingly rich yet simultaneously gold hearted and genuinely charitable parents.
- Gender Inverted: Belinda has a crush on two boys, Aaron and Clay. Aaron is a fair-haired Pretty Boy who dresses like a typical All American Boy and presents himself as a kind-hearted, put-together every man and Clay is a dark-haired, muscular, intimidating-looking Hunk with a more ruggedly handsome appearance, plays sports, towers over most people and rides around on a motorcycle, popping wheelies every time he starts riding off. In actuality, Aaron is a Control Freak and The Charmer who loves to constantly lead Belinda on and acts like she belongs to him and Clay is a Lovable Jock who's too much a Shrinking Violet to even be remotely mean, which ironically might've given his fearsome reputation in the first place, who gets along well with Belinda and everybody else, and as for why he constantly pops wheelies every time he starts riding off, the motorcycle is rented from Clay's buddies and has a really bizarre quirk that makes it pop wheelies every time it starts riding off, much to the dangers of the one riding it.
