Basic Trope: New leader appears bad but is actually good.
- Straight: As Benevolent Boss and Honest Corporate Executive Hillary Young steps down from Young Enterprises, she promotes her childish younger sibling Flash Young, who has a known severe mean streak, a history of Noodle Incidents and other events that could've easily wrecked his reputation, to CEO. As the Mass "Oh, Crap!" is cued, once Flash actually steps up and starts running Young Enterprises, he's actually revealed to be about as good at his job and nice to his employees as his sister before him.
- Exaggerated: Flash does such a good job of running Young Enterprises that it makes Hillary look like an incompetent, power hungry, and all around horrible human being, let alone boss (even if she still isn't all of that).
- Downplayed:
- Flash was CFO for some time, and while people have known him personally enough that he's definitely considered not that bad of a boss, but they're worried about him taking over as CEO because he's been shown to only have a knack for finances and finances only, so it's gonna take extra effort to avoid that reputation.
- Justified: Flash had been shown to be a thuggish, arrogant bruiser, and he barely shows his Hidden Heart of Gold until his promotion to CEO.
- Inverted: Flash had been considered the very best option for a promotion to CEO. Little do they know, once he gets to CEO, it's gonna be like the Tyrant Takes the Helm...
- Subverted: Double subversion of Tyrant Takes the Helm; Flash's Public Relations is pretty good, but he's a horrific Bad Boss beneath his nice façade...
- Double Subverted: ...Which is exactly what rival companies want you to believe. He's actually a pretty Benevolent Boss.
- Parodied: Before being promoted, everyone feared that once Flash takes over, the very building they reside in would blow up spectacularly (and literally). Once he does get promoted, the very building they reside in instead becomes thrice as huge.
- Zig-Zagged: Whether or not Flash's promotion to CEO is this or a Tyrant Takes the Helm situation is Depending on the Writer.
- Averted: Flash's reign as CEO is exactly as how people imagined it to be.
- Enforced: Rule of Funny.
- Lampshaded: "Thank goodness Flash wasn't a complete lunatic... He probably would've driven the whole damn company into the ground just for kicks!"
- Invoked: Flash, recognizing his 0% Approval Rating, decides to get rid of this and work his way in order to become a Universally Beloved Leader.
- Exploited: Another, less savory boss cites Flash as an example of how people may seem intimidating on the outside, but aren't so bad on the inside in order to cultivate favor before gaining power and completely abandoning all pretenses of niceness.
- Defied:
- If people expect Flash to be a tyrant, then so be it.
- Flash cultivates a nicer image in order to not be seen as a tyrant.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
