Go To

Basic Trope: A character is marked as "badass" by wearing a bandana.

  • Straight: Bob wears a bandana. He smokes, wears shades, kicks ass, and gets all the ladies.
  • Exaggerated: Bob wears multiple bandanas all around his body.
  • Logical Extreme: Bob wears an entire outfit made entirely of bandanas, from head to toe, and is hailed as the ultimate badass.
  • Downplayed: Bob's bandana is cool and he's not bad in a fight, but he's not the best.
  • Justified: Bob has long hair, he wears a bandana, so his hair would not fall on his eyes.
  • Inverted: Bob does not wear anything on his head, and is a wimp.
  • Subverted: Bob wears a bandana, but he's an insecure nerd who nobody takes seriously.
  • Double Subverted: Bob buffs up in a Training Montage and becomes more assertive as the story goes on. By the end of the story, he's a badass worthy of his bandana.
  • Parodied: Bob always speaks in a gravelly voice, he's covered in tattoos, and he always has five o'clock shadow. A kid tries to steal his bandana, believing that it will make him a badass as well.
  • Zig-Zagged: It looks like Bob wears a bandana, but carefully looking it looks like that bandana is part of his deformed head, as things pass through that bandana it is revealed that it actually is an illusion.
  • Averted: Bob is badass, but does not wear bandana.
  • Enforced: Bob wears a bandana because his action figure will sell better than his normal outfit.
  • Lampshaded: "Of course I'm wearing a bandana. What kind of a badass would I be without one?"
  • Invoked: Bob is just starting out his career as a bounty hunter. The first thing he does is buy a bandana, believing that it's mandatory for all badasses.
  • Exploited: Bob is starting out his career as a bounty hunter. He buys a bandana because he knows that people consider them to be badass and wearing one will help his image.
  • Defied: Bob is a normal, well-adjusted guy who wears a bandana because he thinks it looks good on him. When people assume that he's a "bad boy", he just rolls his eyes.
  • Discussed: "Who does Bob think he is? Idiot...it's a bandana, not an 'Instant Badass' recipe."
  • Conversed: "Man, I wish I had a bandana like that...nobody would fuck with me."
  • Deconstructed: Constant wear of bandana causes hair loss.
  • Reconstructed: Because of baldness caused by wearing a bandana, Bob's hair can not be pulled during the fight.
  • Played For Laughs: Whenever Bob puts on his bandana, "Bad to the Bone" starts playing in the background, and everybody stops what they're doing and just stares.
  • Played for Drama: Bob's bandana holds sentimental value, as it belonged to a loved one who passed away, and he wears it as a constant reminder of their memory.
  • Played for Horror: Bob's bandana is revealed to have mystical powers that possess him and turn him into a bloodthirsty monster when removed.
  • Implied: The story never directly mentions Bob wearing a bandana, but his reputation as a badass suggests that he does.
    • Bob's bandana is mentioned by other characters but is never shown on-screen.
  • Unparodied: Bob wears a bandana, and it actually does make him a badass.
  • Untwisted: It's initially implied that Bob wears a bandana to appear badass, but it turns out he genuinely needs it to cover a scar or injury.
