Basic Trope: A stranger who seems friendly but really has villainous intentions.
- Straight: Alice is alone and lost in a shady suburb. Bob offers to drive Alice home and steals all her money on the way.
- Exaggerated: Bob offers to drive Alice home and robs, rapes, kills, dismembers her and burns her house.
- Downplayed: Bob offers to drive Alice home and charges three times the usual taxi rates.
- Justified: Bob is a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing maniac who finds victims this way.
- Inverted: Good Samaritan.
- Subverted: Alice believes Bob has stolen all her money. Then she realizes she has put it into the wrong pocket of her purse.
- Double Subverted: But Bob has substituted the real money for fakes.
- Parodied: Bob offers to drive Alice home and dares not to compliment her on her beauty!
- Zig-Zagged: Bob drives Alice home and steals all her money. Then it turns out he was a hero on his way to saving the multiverse and he desperately needed the money at that moment, so he returns it as soon as the world is saved. But then it turns out he is an Evil All Along magical being and pretended to be the hero in order to gain appreciation from the masses, and accepting his money back puts Alice under a permanent curse.
- Averted: Alice isn't in trouble. Or she doesn't get help. Or she gets out of trouble herself.
- Enforced: "We have to point out to the kids that accepting rides from strangers isn't a good idea at all."
