Playing With / Bad "Bad Acting"

Go To

Basic Trope: Over-the-top and unrealistic bad acting.

  • Straight: Alice's bad acting is in a flat monotone, with the stage directions said out loud.
  • Exaggerated: Alice's acting is her reading off a script, struggling with any polysyllabic word and walking aimlessly around the stage.
  • Downplayed: Alice's acting is flawed just beyond the point of Willing Suspension of Disbelief, but if it was just a tad better it would be believable.
  • Justified:
    • Alice is three years old.
    • Alice wants nothing to do with the movie she's in and desperately tries to get out of it.
  • Inverted: Beatrice's wonderful acting would have won every Oscar (including stuff like best soundtrack) if it had been real, and it is somehow better than the actress playing Beatrice.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted: Her real acting is even worse.
  • Parodied: Alice's acting kills people.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice's acting is awful, but it was deliberate, but her real acting is even worse, but only because she hates the movie/role she's been casting and is actively trying to ruin it...
  • Averted:
    • Alice's acting is convincingly bad.
    • Alice puts on a merely decent performance; she reads her lines right and doesn't make any major mistakes, but it's nothing noteworthy.
  • Enforced: 'We need to show that Alice is a bad actor, but without making her actor look bad.'
  • Lampshaded: 'That acting is so bad I can barely believe that it's real.'
  • Invoked: Alice's deliberately acts over-the-top to get a part as a bad actor.
  • Exploited: Claire uses Alice's bad acting to make herself look like a better actor.
  • Defied: Alice decides to act better.
  • Discussed: 'Some people have acting that is so over-the-top, it's funny. You just have boring acting.'
  • Conversed: 'I've met plenty of bad actors, an none of them are as entertaining as this character!'
  • Deconstructed: invokedThe film is a Box Office Bomb and gets listed on the Horrible.Film page of Telly Trites because, not only was Alice's acting bad, but their allowing her in the role in the first place says something about the studio's quality standards.
  • Reconstructed: Alice is hammy enough to be seen as the film's one redeeming factor, while everyone else Took the Bad Film Seriously.
