Playing With / Attack Its Weak Point

Go To

Basic Trope: The enemy has an evident weak spot that can be targeted to cause heavy damage.

  • Straight: Jason Bloodspiller has a glowing red gem sticking out from his back. Bob can attack it to deal heavy damage to Jason.
  • Exaggerated: The glowing gem is bigger than Jason himself. It's a wonder how he is still able to stand, let alone walk.
  • Downplayed: The gem is the size of a golf ball and doesn't glow, but players can still (just barely) see it if they pay enough attention.
  • Justified:
    • The gem is a Soul Jar or power source.
    • The gem is a thermoregulator, damaging it reduces (if not negates) Jason's Brutalizer Suit's ability to properly dissipate heat. note
  • Inverted:
    • Bob has a red gem sticking from his back that enemies can target to cause heavy damage to him.
    • Attacking the gem heals Jason.
    • Jason's glowing red gem is a weak point...but because Bob was ordered to bring him in alive, he has to avoid hitting the gem to ensure he doesn't accidentally kill him.
  • Subverted: Bob attacks the red gem with his sword, but Jason doesn't seem affected at all.
  • Double Subverted: That's because the gem is only vulnerable to magic.
  • Parodied:
    • Jason has a big on/off switch on his back.
    • Jason has a badly painted target on his back.
    • Jason has an "Attack Here" sign taped on his back.
  • Zig Zagged: Jason has a bunch of gems all over his body, but only some of them are actual weak spots.
  • Averted: Jason doesn't have a red gem or any other apparent weak spot on his body.
  • Enforced: "Let's give the players some visual cue to where they should attack this boss".
  • Lampshaded: "That glowing gem is asking to be struck by my blade!"
  • Invoked: Emperor Evulz designed Jason with an exploitable weakness so that he could be easily curbed if he decides to turn on Evulz.
  • Exploited: Jason uses his gem to lure Bob into a quick counterattack.
  • Defied: Jason wears protective armor that covers his back.
  • Discussed: "Hopefully there will be some giant glowing "kill me" light you can hit to damage him."
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: The health bars of all bosses are hidden, but Jason seems to die faster if you hit the gem.

So here's this giant enemy trope. And you Attack Its Weak Point... FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE.
