Basic Trope: A character's high defenses are counterbalanced by their low stamina.

  • Straight: Bob wears a heavy suit of armour that can take a lot of hits before breaking, but once it's broken, he goes down in only a few hits.
  • Exaggerated: Bob wears a suit of Powered Armor that can sustain an insanely high amount of punishment, but he's a One-Hit-Point Wonder without it.
  • Downplayed: Bob is only a little more fragile than your average character, and has slightly better defences to compensate.
  • Justified:
    • Bob is a Handicapped Badass with a medical problem that makes his body weak, so he wears strong armour so he can keep fighting alongside the other heroes.
    • Bob is a robot with a strong metal body, but once his armour is pierced, any damage is very likely to hit critical components and shut him down.
  • Inverted: Bob wears literally no armour at all, but has enough natural stamina and toughness to make up for it. However, if Bob is swarmed with Scratch Damage attackers, he will be defeated quickly.
  • Subverted: Once Bob's armour finally cracks from all the damage, Bob still takes a normal amount of punishment before going down.
  • Double Subverted: ...until the enemy exploits a crippling Achilles' Heel of his that the armour protected him from.
  • Parodied: Because Bob is so frail, he drastically overreacts to even the slightest injuries when he doesn't have his armour on.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob's armour and natural stamina are both average.
  • Enforced: The creators of the game were forced to make Bob rely heavily on his armour, so they could sell upgrades to it for real money.
  • Lampshaded: "That attack would've crushed me into paste if it'd hit me directly. Good thing I've got this strong armour to protect me, huh?"
  • Invoked: Bob believes that armour is more important than physical strength, so he devotes all his spare time to designing better and better types of armour, at the expense of exercising.
  • Exploited: Armor-Piercing Attack
  • Defied: Bob starts working out to increase his physical toughness, ensuring that he can keep going even without his armour.
  • Discussed: "You might think you're something special, Bob, but it's your armour that does all the work, isn't it? Without it, you're just another weakling."
  • Conversed: "I never liked playing as Bob. Sure, his defences are great, but what happens if you're hit with an Armor-Piercing Attack?"
  • Implied: Bob is always seen charging into battle with his armour on, and only seen running away without it.
  • Deconstructed: Bob's fellow heroes can always train to improve their toughness, but Bob's armour can only get so durable. As a result, Bob Can't Catch Up to the rest of his team, and feels useless.
  • Reconstructed: Bob works hard to improve his armour, letting him stay on equal footing with other heroes who have more stamina.
