Basic Trope: The sprites have "flipped" versions that face the other way, with every feature being flipped as well.

  • Straight: Alice and Bob have only 1 true set of sprites; The other set is basically them flipped.
  • Exaggerated: Literally EVERYTHING has flipped sprites, even the statues.
  • Downplayed: The sprites have flipped sprites, but the features aren't flipped.
  • Justified: Alice and Bob's character designs are completely symmetrical, and they fight in a squared (i.e. ambidextrous) stance.
  • Inverted: Alice has a symmetrical design that could have simply been flipped without causing any issues, but two sets of sprites were still made for her depending on which way she's facing.
  • Subverted: At first it looks like Alice's sprite is flipped when she's facing the other way, but it's later revealed this is actually her twin sister, and they've been switching with each other regularly throughout the game.
  • Double Subverted: But both twins are using the same sprite, as can be seen when they're facing the same way.
  • Parodied: Everyone has to manually flip their features everytime they turn around.
  • Zig-Zagged: Some characters do have a full second set of sprites, others do not.
  • Averted: The sprites have a full second set. When Alice, a southpaw Boxing Battler, faces to the right, her back is turned due to her southpaw stance. Likewise, most of the right handed characters turn their back to the cameras whenever they face left.
  • Enforced:
    • It's either laziness, time constraints, or memory constraints that force the creators to use flipped sprites.
    • The developers would have been able to make two sets of sprites depending on which way a character is facing (or the game uses 3D models that can be freely rotated without issue), but they choose to flip the character's features anyway to make attacks easier to identify and read.
  • Lampshaded: "Wait, weren't your bangs on the other side of your face a moment ago?"
  • Invoked: Another character hacks into the game files and deletes Bob's second set of sprites. Therefore, Bob has to use a flipped version of the other set to face the other direction as a fallback.
  • Exploited: Bob is wearing an eyepatch. Because his eyepatch switches eyes when he turns around, that side of him will always be a blind spot, so his opponent focuses his attacks there.
  • Defied: When Alice turns around, her hair style is flipped. She immediately redoes her hair so it's correct.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Bob lampshades the fact that Alice's hair flips when she turns around. Despite this, she's never seen facing the other direction at any point throughout the game.
