Basic Trope: An Eldritch Abomination drives itself insane.
- Straight: B'obh is so abominable that its own rational thought (Or its version of rational thought) is completely destroyed.
- Exaggerated: B'obh is driven so insane that everything in its body shuts down, reducing it to a vegetative, babbling state.
- Downplayed:
- B'obh is reduced to a cunning animal; while its only motivation is bottomless hunger, it retains an unexpected cleverness.
- B'obh combines the power of a god with the attitude and emotional self-control of a spoiled child, but remains essentially sapient and able to communicate.
- Justified:
- You Cannot Grasp the True Form. That includes you, B'obh.
- B'obh Was Once a Man. And knows the horrible secrets of the universe. This also kinda-sorta overlaps with Forced Transformation.
- As literally nothing in the universe can threaten B'obh means there is no need for any intelligence on its part.
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity
- B'obh Was Once a Man. He was somehow able to gain godlike powers, but ends up suffering from Power Incontinence due to still having the mind of a human. He is forced to use all of his mental strength just to keep his powers under control, making it exceedingly difficult for him to even think about anything else.
- Inverted:
- B'obh is thrilled about how abominable it is.
- B'obh was insane before being an Eldritch Abomination, but the hyper-awareness and intelligence B'obh gains from his newfound power restores his sanity.
- A'Lize is all-knowing, but incredibly weak and vulnerable.
- Subverted:
- B'obh looks as though it's going to go insane, but it regains its cool...
- B'obh's no longer remotely human and seems to have lost all rational thought, but it really now just sees the world differently.
- B'ohb acts apparently randomly and never communicates in a way that may be understood. This is because it is all-knowing, omnipotent, and all patient meaning it has no use for communication nor a desire to leave boring parts to anything else - if it wants something done it will do so itself when it wants to.
- Double Subverted:
- ...Right before screaming and babbling.
- It rambles in ways that suggest intelligent if alien thought, but when all its rants are taken together, it's not Blue-and-Orange Morality, it's mindlessly babbling profound-sounding Word Salad Philosophy.
- Parodied:
- B'obh has driven itself so insane that it has an over-sized mallet used to bash itself in the head with while laughing like "HOO-HOO! HOO-HOO!"
- B'obh's power has driven it insane...By Elder God standards. The end result it that it acts like a normal human being, annoying it's more 'traditional' brethren.
- Zig Zagged: Due to the sheer power and alienness of B'obh's psyche, it is completely impossible to tell whether it's utterly mindless and gets by through cosmic coincidence, or simply so intelligent that it's circuitous plans are indistinguishable from random insanity
- Averted: No eldritch horror goes mad from their own revelation.
- Enforced:
- The executives wanted to say that being an abomination from among the stars is no good.
- The executives wanted to portray the message "With Great Power Comes Great Insanity".
- Lampshaded:
- "Wow. I guess B'obh's psyche was just as fragile as any."
- "B'ohb is the proof that all-powerful is not the same as all-knowing."
- Invoked: A powerful mage allows B'obh to see what humans perceive of it.
- Exploited:
- B'obh's newfound insanity makes it easier for The Hero to punch it out.
- Or to lure the hero to his doom by giving him a false sense of security, as B'obh made use of a combo of Obfuscating Stupidity and Obfuscating Insanity.
- Alternatively, Drake turns into The Starscream and sics his insane master on The Hero to do the job for him.
- Defied: B'obh points out that what's abominable to humans is the norm for his species.B'obh: You didn't seriously think I could possibly drive myself insane, did you?
- Discussed: "Wait, you just looked in a mirror and you're suddenly batshit crazy?" "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
- Conversed: "Wow. That was pretty odd for an Eldritch Abomination to do. How would it even be able to drive itself insane?"
*inane babbling*
