Basic Trope: A boss chases after you. And you have to run away from it until you are able to fight back.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia, Jason Bloodspiller ambushes Bob at the end of the Big Boo's Haunt level and chases him down through some hallways. Once Bob reaches the foyer, he is able to fire back at Jason.
  • Exaggerated: Every Boss Battle in the game consists of chase sequences where Bob has to run away from the bosses while simultaneously firing back at them. The chases themselves never end until the bosses (or Bob) are defeated.
  • Downplayed: Jason only chases Bob up to a certain point, in which case he will return to his starting position, initiating a new chase if Bob decides to go near him again.
  • Justified:
    • Jason can only be hurt from the back. However, Jason is massive, easily taking up most of the hallway's space, which means Bob can't go around him, so he has to run until he finds a place with enough space to fight back.
    • Jason's only weakness is fire, which can only be found at the start of the level. Bob has to lure Jason to the starting room by going back.
    • Nothing Bob can do will ever be enough to put Jason down for good until he finally corners Bob near the end of the level - by that time, enough damage will have been done to Jason that the eventual Boss Battle will at least be more manageable.
  • Inverted: "Get Back Here!" Boss.
  • Subverted: Jason starts chasing after Bob, but it turns out Bob can easily stop him on his tracks by firing back with his gun.
  • Double Subverted: But then Jason uses magic to summon a protective barrier around himself, so Bob has no choice but to run away for now.
  • Parodied: Both Bob and Jason assume a track and field race crouching position, then a Mook with a starting pistol appears and fires, beginning the chase.
  • Zig Zagged: Cat-and-Mouse Boss.
  • Averted: Stationary Boss.
  • Enforced: It's a way the developers found to make Jason look powerful and intimidating without necessarily having to translate it to gameplay.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Jason is well aware that he has the advantage on a narrow space, where Bob can't reach his Achilles' Heel located at his back, so he decides to ambush Bob in the hallways.
  • Exploited: Bob deliberately lets Jason chase after him in order to tire the boss down.
  • Defied:
    • Jason is not patient enough to wait for Bob to come to the hallways, so he attacks Bob in the spacious foyer, where Bob can fight back without the need of running.
    • Jason's successor (by way of Klingon Promotion) Claidheamh the Left Handed Brute swiftly kills the former with his Claymore.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played For Laughs: Jason is clumsy and will occasionally trip, slip or hit himself into some of the obstacles, letting you buy some distance from him.
  • Played For Drama: Jason is an unstoppable force who destroys everything on his path towards Bob, including other enemies who get horribly mutilated by him, and his constant roars and screams he lets out while doing that are all pure Nightmare Fuel. Oh, and he's That One Boss, just to top it all off.
