Basic Trope: Anthropomorphic animals become more human-like as they age.
- Straight: Bob the dog has a child named Puppy, who walks on four legs and cannot talk while Bob is bipedal and can talk.
- Exaggerated: Puppy is a literal normal dog who never talks, barks, walks on four legs, and wears nothing, except the occasional leash. Bob looks almost completely human-like apart from a few dog-like features, wears a white T-shirt, grey jeans, red socks, and blue shoes, talks, and uses technology.
- Downplayed: Bob is bipedal, but that's where his anthropomorphism ends, and Puppy can say a few words and wears a diaper.
- Justified: Anthropomorphic animals become human-like as they grow up.
- Inverted: Puppy is bipedal and can talk while Bob walks on all fours and cannot talk.
- Subverted:
- Puppy was acting like a normal dog to spy on Alice the cat.
- Puppy is in the crawling stage, we merely misread that as him being a non-anthropomorphic quadruped.
- Double Subverted: Puppy begins Becoming the Mask.
- Parodied: Bob treats Puppy more like a family pet than a son.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob is more anthropomorphic than Puppy, but Kitty and her mother Claire are both normal-looking cats, while Danny the rabbit acts like an ordinary rabbit and his daughter Bunny is anthropomorphic.
- Averted: Puppy and Bob are equally as anthropomorphic.
- Enforced: Originally, Bob was going to be not anthropomorphic as Puppy, but the executives wanted to appeal to a younger audience, so the creators made Bob anthropomorphic but they forgot to make Puppy anthropomorphic as well. They decided to keep that.
- Lampshaded: "Hey Bob, how come your son seems less anthropomorphic than you?"
- Invoked: Alice kidnaps the originally anthropomorphic Puppy and changes his brain into the mind of an ordinary dog to make him not anthropomorphic.
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: Bob teaches Puppy to become anthropomorphic.
- Discussed: "Bob, you're so lucky Puppy was anthropomorphic and not acting like a normal dog, like in these family sitcoms."
- Conversed: "Why is Bob anthropomorphic but Puppy is not? Did they forgot to make Puppy anthropomorphic?"
