WiiWare was a service from Nintendo that allowed people to download games to their Wii. Unlike the Virtual Console, which let you play old games from the past, WiiWare was composed of mostly original titles.

It was envisioned as the Wii's approximate equivalent of the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Like the Virtual Console, WiiWare games were added to the roster once a week. Some games had extra content downloadable to the game for an extra fee, known as Pay + Play. Much like the other console's digital download services, WiiWare also spawned some unique titles of its own.

With the shutdown of the Wii Shop Channel, this service went down alongside any games contained within it. As of January 30, 2019, WiiWare games are no longer available for purchase.
