Most episodes that start with a female protagonist getting married have her facing an overbearing, even abusive mother-in-law. Depending on the characters involved, her husband may either stand up for his wife or side with his mother. Sometimes, the MIL is revealed to be Good All Along.

Nano Nomaru's episodes
- Some stories starring Nano Nomaru as part of a married couple have her face an abusive mother-in-law who goes out of her way to bully her.
- "Showing my husband and mother-in-law hell for their years of emotional harassment"
: Nano's mother-in-law emotionally abused her and her husband Sorao did nothing to help always making excuses for her. It escalates to the point where she cut her daughter Sakura's hair. After that she divorced Sorao. - "Mother-in-law took my son away…": Nano's mother-in-law only let Nano breastfeed her baby son Yuki and then take over the rest of her childcare duties when she was done. Even when months passed, the MIL kept at it. When Nano was fed up with her crap, the hag took Yuki and left the house. And while Nano was able to get Yuki back, he’s underweight due to the MIL feeding him fruit juice, causing Nano and her husband to ban her from seeing him again despite her protests that Yuki should stay with her.
- "My mother-in-law finds out that I'm pregnant, , and schemes something terrible..." [sic]: Nano's mother-in-law Marie treats her like a housemaid behind Masayoshi's back, with the intent to make her a "good wife" for him. However, Masayoshi eventually finds out and leaves with Nano. When Nano announced to Marie that she was pregnant with a baby girl, the MIL tried to give her rotten food to hurt her, only for Masayoshi to alert her before she eats.
- "My sister-in-law ran me over but my mother-in-law defended her": Nano's mother-in-law and sister-in-law Rena bullied her for anything and everything. Moreover, when she was run over by Rena's car, the MIL blames her for it and plans to force her to pay for the damages.
- "My mother-in-law broke my computer because she thought I was being lazy…": Nano's overbearing mother-in-law Iyo went out of her way to bully her ever since she married Masayoshi. She even went as far as threatening to take Nano's daughter Sakura away to raise her instead. Even when Masayoshi tried to dissuade her, she kept following them around. Moreover, she adopted a "nice grandma" act around the elementary-aged Sakura to gain her trust and sold her own house to move into the couple's new house, where she showed her true colors towards the family.

- "Mean mother-in-law gets what she deserves…": Hanayo's mother-in-law started bullying her for anything and everything since she threw away her moldy food items and bought lots of food items and left them to rot, causing her husband to chew his mother out. Turns out she wanted Hanayo out of the house for "stealing" her son's attention from her.
- "My boyfriend's family hates me": Hanayo's mother-in-law Sachiko outright despised her for her streak of back luck after his younger sister Rena hired a PI to investigate her. When Rio himself refused to cave into their demands, Rena went out of her way to break the couple up with her mother's approval since she was still attracted to Rio well into her twenties. Moreover, when Rio decided to take her to his parents' house, her MIL tried her best efforts to drive her away.
- "When I was hospitalized, I found out my husband was having an affair !" [sic]: Mrs. Saeko is a tough boss who made her daughter-in-law Rie work very hard. Subverted when Rie collapsed and went to the hospital, she apologized for working her so hard and revealed that her son, Shuuji who was Rie's husband was cheating on her (which she found out through a private detective eye). Mrs. Saeko demoted Shuuji to a job with no privileges and trained Rie to be a CEO to succeed her.
- "My sister-in-law stole my wedding!!!": Annabel always tries to make important events about herself, as shown when her sister-in-law Yelena came to her fiancé Trent's house.
- "Mother-in-law canceled my reservation without consent but husband sided with her": Shinobu criticized her daughter-in-law Kyouko for being a working mom instead of a housewife whenever she came to visit. Things escalated when she moved in, as Shinobu constantly shamed and harassed her for not being a housewife.
- "My mother-in-law is insane...": Isuzu's mother-in-law started out nice towards her. However, her kindness falls out of the window when Shigeru let it slip that she got plastic surgery. From there on, the MIL started to bully her and bring the surgery up at every chance she got even when Shigeru told her to knock it off. When she announced that she was pregnant in the hopes the MIL would change her attitude, she whined that Sarina should be the one getting pregnant instead since she was prettier and married to Shigeru's brother Mamoru.
- "My house burnt down and my mother-in-law tried to blame it on me": Hanae's mother-in-law Kyoko seemed to be a kindly old lady when she moved into her house. However, it turns out to be a farce after strange occurrences in the house that built up to a house fire. Turns out she was in love with her own son and did this to get Hanae out of the way and have Masato all to herself.
- "My brother-in-law's wife kept inviting herself to our house…": Yuko's sister-in-law Kayoko was an obnoxious young woman who badgered her to let her into the former's house. When Yuko told her to book a hotel, Kayoko canceled on purpose and pulled all sorts of excuses and used her three kids as leverage to guilt-trip Yuko into letting her into her house.
- "My husband and step-family threaten me to come to their wedding": Charako's in-laws treated her like a member of their family, but when she announced her mother died in a car accident and had to attend her funeral, both her mother- and sister-in-law flipped her lid at her because the SIL's wedding was the same day as the funeral; they even sent her threatening messages when she decided to attend the funeral anyway.
- "My mother in law was bullying my daughter just because she didn't like me" [sic]: Erina was bullied by her mother-in-law for being a high school graduate. However, her sisters-in-law Rei and Minako were supportive of Erina's plight; warning their mother about the consequences of her bullying. Moreover, the sisters exposed to their brother Teruaki the ways she bullied Erina, even going as far as to show up at her house unannounced and teaching her to do the chores with a spatula in her hand. However, the MIL refused to apologize and even targeted Erina's daughter Aya to spite her.
- "Got revenge on my husband who broke up with me because I was infertile": Miki Tazaki's mother-in-law, Ikue, was a strict conservative type who always scolded her for any choice she took and demanded her to have kids. However, when Miki was found infertile with almost no hope of treatment, Ikue visited her and started to give her a dressing-down for being "a failure" and demanded she divorce her son and leave the house. Initially, Miki refused to divorce but relented when her husband came home with a younger woman he got pregnant.
