Nightmare Fuel / The Noordegraaf Files

Go To

At first glance, you might think The Noordegraaf Files looks like a cheerful comic full of bright colors and and optimistic characters.

If you think that, you're dead wrong.

While the comic does have cheerful moments full of love and kindness, it also has plenty of nightmare fuel.

  • Violet, the comic's resident Broken Bird, exudes nightmare fuel. See below.
    • She's mentally unstable, and when provoked will attack and attempt to brutally murder whatever person or target is nearest her. Yes, this includes her friends.
    • She wears a mask that obscures her face, and is missing half of said face underneath it.
    • She moves completely silently. Normally this wouldn't be so bad, but mixed with her instability, she could be behind you, ready to drive a sword deep into your skull. And you wouldn't even know.
    • Her backstory is currently the darkest part of the comic. She was thrown out of her home by her single mother at age 11, and lived on the streets for six months before being kidnapped and held for ransom. When the criminals realized no ransom was going to come, they decided to try and kill her. The problem? They had been torturing and starving her for two months. In addition to missing a lung, her breasts, and her left eye, they also chopped off her lower legs so she couldn't run, and her middle and index fingers on both hands to stop her from being able to hold things. The worst part? We see her after all this was done to her, in graphic detail. It is not for the weak stomached. (Link)

  • Dark mages could definitely qualify as this.
    • Think about it: An intelligent, super-persistent serial murderer with the ability to practically smell where you are, and magical abilities able to kill you before you even realize that something is wrong.
    • And after they kill you? They cut out your heart AND EAT IT WHILE IT STILL BEATS.
    • Also there's the fact that they will kill anyone with magical powers they see, including children.

  • Both kinds of Nymphs could fall into this.
    • The dryads aren't that bad - sometimes they will even help and tend to humans if they run into one - but other times they will slice your stomach open and stand over you as you bleed out.
    • Dryads cook and EAT humans. This can lead to Awkward Stituations when giving food to humans.
    • The nereids, however, are much, MUCH worse. They kill ANY human they see and gleefully eat them, brains, guts and all. If you attempt to reproduce with a nereid, your fate is even worse - they tie you up in fire coral (which feels like a bad burn) and leave you there for weeks as the coral EATS YOU ALIVE, giving you plenty of time if making love with that girl was worth it. (It doesn't help that nereids will actively seduce humans, and use them as servants.)
    • Oh and If you're female? You might arguably have a worse fate than that. Not much is known about what Nereids DO to human females, but they have to reproduce somehow...
