Nightmare Fuel / The Grapes of Wrath

• When they are entering California. Ma Joad laying next to the grandmother's corpse for what is implied to be hours, and keeping it to herself. Then having to lie about it to guarantee her children passage into their "promised land."
• Mrs. Sandry's seizure-like, religious breakdown after Ma yells at her.
  The sperit. She got the sperit.
• The bloody death of Jim Casy.
• Granma begins to lose her mind after her husband's death and soon dies herself.
• The tractors. The book even describes them as monsters.
• Rose Sharon's stillborn baby. One passing sentence in the novel even describes it as looking like a blue mummy. Ick.
• Steinbeck loves his religious symbolism. The heavy rain near the end of the novel represents the Great Flood of the Bible and it really helps point out how dreary and hopeless situations are for the main family.
• All the malnourished, emaciated children.
