  • As with many a Dahl book (and movie adaption thereof), many a child can be traumatized by the Giants in the BFG. Oh, and nightmares are actually used as a tool in the book/movie.
  • The BFG's ears are so large, he can hear near anything. For example, when he picks a beautiful flower, he can hear it scream.
  • The first seven minutes or so of the animated movie (while containing a very awesome score) can be pretty freaking scary for some people. Not to mention the Fleshlumpeater-gets-child-in-the-night scene.
    • The way the BFG himself is introduced in the animated film, particularly how he just appears and fades into existence wearing a hooded cloak with no fanfare or music is pretty damn unsettling. The effect is driven home by Sophie not noticing the BFG at first and closing her curtains, only to open them again seconds later and gasp in shock with a loud crash of thunder. It doesn't help that he's transparent and you can't see his face when he first appears either.
      • The BFG's face is never shown properly during any of this either, always shown in shadows, and it looks pretty disturbing. When he realizes Sophie has been watching and scowls at her, it's downright terrifying.
  • The nine giants. With sadistic glee, they roam the world each night in search of humans to eat. In the book, Sophie notes the meaty stench of the Bloodbottler's breath. In the animated adaptation, their oafishness is rather less comedic - whereas the book's Bloodbottler offers the BFG childish jibes, and conversationally brags about who he's next planning to eat, the animated Bloodbottler, with his ferocious bellow and single-minded obsession with crunching bones, is rather more feral.
  • Sophie nearly getting eaten by the Bloodbottler is one as well.
  • Trogglehumpers are literal nightmares.
  • Heck, just the giants' very names are disturbing...
  • The live-action film trailer, which shows Sophie's abduction by the BFG, is pretty frightening. Especially Sophie's narration, which is probably what every frightened child thinks at night.
Never get out of bed. Never go to the window. Never look behind the curtain.
  • “Look at what you has done. And there be no forgiveness.”
