Nightmare Fuel / Soliloquy

Go To

Remember all the Nightmare Fuel the Hand already brought to The Defenders (2017) and preceding series? Well, Soliloquy takes things up to eleven.

  • The heroes' decision to shelter their loved ones at the precinct means that the Hand can easily attack them, especially when they can ping individual cellphones, like Karen's and Colleen's phones.
  • The Fingers decide that the best way to stop Matt, Jessica and Luke from interfering with their harvest of the substance is to launch an attack on the loved ones they care about most. This means attacking the precinct, and by the time things are over, countless cops are dead, Karen and Claire have been wounded, and Misty has lost her right arm. To get into further specifics:
    • For Claire, the Hand's arrival at the precinct is a repeat of their attack on the hospital: the power gets cut, then an army of ninjas enter intent on killing everyone in their path.
    • Bakuto and his men launch the interior asasult, cutting down every cop who gets in their way as he seeks out the room where Misty is holding the loved ones. By the time Bakuto gets to that room, his katana is covered in enough blood and entrails to make Claire feel sick to her stomach.
    • Bakuto isn't too alarmed as Misty and Captain Strieber draw their guns on him. And then, without any warning, he abruptly kills Strieber. Colleen and Claire charge Bakuto, fighting him to a standstill. In the midst of the fight, Bakuto stabs Claire in the shoulder with a poisoned dagger. Luke goes into a rage and delivers a vicious beatdown to Bakuto in response.
    • The number of reinforcements Bakuto and Murakami have brought with them to the precinct are even greater than the number of men who were part of the fight at Midland Circle, enough that Matt can't count an exact number.
    • While Luke and Jessica are fighting Bakuto and his men, Matt is left to deal with getting Claire, Colleen, Foggy, Karen, Malcolm, Misty, and Trish out of the precinct. They've barely made it far before they're cornered by Murakami and his ninjas, and Matt realizes...this isn't the Hand randomly attacking a police precinct, this is a planned assault on them. This forces Matt to put on his season 1 outfit as he doesn't have enough time to slip on the armor that Melvin made him.
    Misty Knight: Shit...
    • An assault breaks out, with Matt and Karen fighting Murakami; Trish, Jessica and Luke fight the ninjas while shielding the non-combatants (Foggy, Malcolm, and Claire); and Colleen and Misty fight Bakuto.
    • Murakami manages to lob a tonfa that hits Karen in the leg. Matt subsequently lets out a furious beating on Murakami, enough to leave Murakami spitting out blood.
    • In the midst of the fighting, another earthquake happens as Madame Gao and Elektra begin mining the substance underneath Midland Circle.
    • Thanks to his endurance, Bakuto uses the shaking of the earthquake to get the upper hand on Misty, and like in the show, he cuts off her right arm. This drives Colleen to the breaking point, and she manages to disarm Bakuto of his katana, fully intent on murdering him in cold blood, forcing Matt to talk her out of it.
    Matt Murdock: No! Colleen, stop!
Matt Murdock: The police are on their way and we need answers.
  • Matt realizes that the tanto Bakuto stabbed Claire with is laced with the same poison that Nobu's ninjas had used when they cornered Matt and Elektra in Midland Circle. He can barely hide his desperation knowing Claire is suffering the same way Elektra suffered.
