Unmarked spoilers below.

  • Think a feathered Tyrannosaurus rex can't be scary? Think again.
    • It reappears as a Jump Scare at the end of the Kickstarter trailer.
  • The old version of the T. rex, which not only looked more like a Prehistoric Monster than the final product does, but also has a clear cassowary influence to its design—so if that were the final product, we would be dealing with essentially a forty-foot long, carnivorous cassowary with teeth.
  • The hatchling stage of the game will very likely provide plenty of this. Think about it — you're a tiny and vulnerable creature that's just entered an enormous world you barely understand, full of environmental hazards beyond your comprehension and nasty predators that see you as nothing more than a bite-sized snack. You might not even be able to count on your own kind to protect you, as it's been confirmed that (much like many carnivores today) at least Tyrannosaurus and Dakotaraptor will be cannibalistic and won't hesitate to eat youngsters of their species. In short: Early Game Hell taken to the extreme.
  • Post-Impact Survival Mode will undoubtedly be this. Imagine: The fateful K/Pg Extinction event has occurred. The meteorite has hit the Earth with the force of over a million nuclear bombs. In a matter of moments, Hell Creek goes from a lush tropical land to a barren ashy Death World. All of the creatures become increasingly more violent and aggressive as their food sources slowly die off and they become more and more desperate to survive. And, per Word of God, in this mode you can only make it so far—your player character will still die in the end, just as all the other non-avian dinosaurs will. Also, keep in mind the entire time you're playing this game mode that it isn't just some post-apocalyptic horror fiction, it's something like what would inevitably have actually happened at the end of the Cretaceous period (and the Real Life version may have been a far longer and more drawn-out process than the game's, life was potentially dragging on this way for years if not centuries or millenia before many species finally succumbed to extinction).
  • The Anzu's Voice Changeling abilities may very well end up being Paranoia Fuel. Picture this scenario: as a hatchling, you hear what appears to be the sound of one of your parents calling you back to the nest. You go to check it out... then it turns out to be an enormous ostrich-sized omnivorous dinosaur that quickly catches you and devours you with no hesitation.
  • There will be mosasaurs in the game's Inland Sea. While they aren't the same thing as the gargantuan, shark and mutant dino hybrid-eating beast that Jurassic World gave us, they will nonetheless be powerful, oceanic predators that will take advantage of your struggle to cross the vast sea. Even worse, the devs have said they will play a role like that of Snacker the Shark or the Lurker Shark. Snacker and the Lurker Shark themselves were major sources of thalassophobia and nightmares back then, so for all of those who grew up with either game, it's pretty safe to say they will suffer unpleasant childhood flashbacks... this time while being pursued by a hungry, prehistoric shark-like reptile.
  • Some of the ambient music that's been revealed so far is quite eerie (sometimes even menacing) and will undoubtedly make the atmosphere of the game unsettling at times.
  • Fittingly for Halloween, the devteam released this test animation of the Quetzalcoatlus. Imagine running into that as a baby dinosaur...
