Despite being a Denser and Wackier version of Grand Theft Auto Online, NoPixel is chock full of terrifying moments.

Scary Characters

  • Jasper Saxon, the "Cassette Killer," whose calling cards are the cassette recordings of him torturing and killing people. And he's so uncomfortably nonchalant whenever he talks about murder or torture, befitting a true psychopath.
    • What makes it even more chilling is that he KNOWS it's evil; he's trying to do unspeakable things so he can be reunited with his dead sister in Hell. When he's finally killed off for good by Choi and Faily, Jasper hears his sister's voice in the afterlife, and she tells him that not only is she not in Hell, but that she's disappointed in what he became, and that he's going to spend eternity alone.
Abigail: It wasn't for me; you did it for you. You enjoyed it. That look in your eyes, when you... The look of a monster. The look of our father. [...] Goodbye, Jasper. I love you.
    • Even then, Death Is Cheap — in 3.0, Alvin Kohawl gets possessed by Jasper's spirit, which manifests as a Split Personality that takes on Jasper's name, and becomes a copycat killer. He resumes killing, and completely brutalizes Ash Ketchup. Only after he's captured, convicted, and finally executed by firing squad is Jasper gone for good.
  • Four Tee is whimsical, childlike, and charming...and truly terrifying, as depicted in this trailer. Let's just say there's a reason most fanart depicts her holding a bloody knife.
    • There's Fridge Horror surrounding her backstory: her entire life, she was kept in a black box cut off from the rest of the world, doesn't know her real name or birthday, or even if she has parents. All she knows is that she was called "40" by her keepers.
    • During her time in the black box, she kills her only friend, someone named "Teddy," in a fit of rage when he tries to leave her. The incident is so traumatic that she doesn't recall it, but only remembers seeing red.
    • After escaping, she often tells strangers about her search for Teddy. Because all they see is a confused and childlike young woman, they agree to help. When they fail in finding Teddy, she chases them with a knife, while singing Playground Songs. And she never stops smiling.
    • Speaking of, she sometimes seems to take a perverse delight in harming others, as demonstrated in this clip, where she forces a hostage to guess what weapons she's keeping in her box, before using them on him.
    • She makes people fight each other (or her) for a chance to be on the friends list, makes her existing friends fight each other to claim higher numbers. The entire system is tiered, with numbers closer to 0 having higher priority, meaning that if a chaotic villain has a higher number — like Mike Block as her longtime Number 1 — then her actions will sway more towards self-destructive villainy. And she sees no problem with this.
    • On the other side of this, Four Tee is an aromantic Yandere; she will happily murder anyone who isn't on the friend list for either harming her friends or for being too chummy with her friends. She also stalks her friends, watching from the shadows or breaking into their homes to watch them sleep; if she even detects a hint that one of her friends will leave or betray her, she will try to abduct and/or kill them.
  • Bovice Wilkinson is terror incarnate. During his time on the lam, he conducts criminal operations from the shadows, targeting the systems that incarcerated him in the first place, while tweeting out #BoviceWorld to taunt the city and show them who's boss.
    • His kidnapping of Sergeant Angel left her with severe trauma and PTSD. After her kidnappers force her to wear prison clothes, they bring her before Bovice at Eugene's house, where he'd set up a torture chamber. Bovice forces her to do drugs, and in her haze she sees visions of horrible, unspeakable things, like a world where Bovice is the king of the city, and where she is chained to his throne like a pet. When he later calls her on the phone, she's utterly terrified that he's going to find her and kill her.
    • He's not much better as a lifer behind bars, still ruling with an iron fist. He regularly forces other prisoners into doing ass meth or other drugs, delights in inflicting casual pain, and at one point beats Mia Mersion to within an inch of her life for holding onto an LSPD hat that an officer had given her. The Department of Corrections may be running the prision, but make no mistake — Bovice is in charge.
  • Tessa Lamb is one of the kindest and sweetest people in the city, so it's absolutely terrifying whenever her other personality Mary Wolf comes to the surface. The only saving grace is that Mary is Lawful Neutral at best, only taking over to hurt anyone who harms an animal in front of Tessa; and Tessa doesn't have any memory of Mary's activities.
    • Whenever Mary takes over, Tessa's normally high-pitched voice pitches down to a deep snarl, but Mary can and will use Tessa's normal voice to lure her victims. A Wolf in Lamb's clothing, so to speak.
    • And here's the thing: no one knows that it's Tessa doing this. She's careful enough to stab her victims far away from any locals, so all her victims lose their memories of the attack. The only ones who know about Mary are Vivi Veine and Norman Bones, each evil in their own right and willing to use Mary for their own ends. The only other person who came somewhat close to finding out the truth was Lauren Forcer, and she didn't suspect Tessa at all.
    • Tessa also has a third, more protective and chaotic personality called "The Other" that first manifested after repeated stress brought on by Kiki and Davey. This personality speaks in rhyme and has a fixation with clocks. And unlike with the Tessa personality, Mary Wolf has no control over The Other, and very little memory of her activities.
    • Now that Tessa is a park ranger, Mary and The Other have since been repressed. But they're still there, and Word of God says that whenever Tessa has to use her firearm, Mary is the one pulling the trigger.
  • Norman Bones, who exists as a purely dark and serious character in a world that's otherwise typically populated with Laughably Evil villains. At best, Norman a serial killer for whom Death Is Cheap. And that's at best; at worst, he's a Humanoid Abomination or Louis Cypher. Or both.
    • His voice is a deep, nightmarish croak. And very soft. And his aura is so intrinsically evil that all he has to do is speak, and everyone is instantly terrified.
    • His relationship with Irwin Dundee is a Deal with the Devil of the worst kind. Twice he's brought Dundee from death and purgatory, with the caveat that Dundee has to continue Norman's legacy of chaos and violence. And Norman knows when Dundee will die. Whenever Dundee sees him afterwards — like in this clip — Dundee knows that his time is ticking. Dundee fully believes that Norman is a God of the Dead, and quite possibly the reason behind why Death Is a Slap on the Wrist for most people in the NoPixel world.

Scary Situations

  • This video shows the HOA and EMS doing normal things, when a "tactical nuke" warning sounds, a klaxon blares for a few seconds, and a nuclear weapon goes off killing everyone in the city. Played for Laughs since everyone gets better anyway, but it's also not fun seeing characters screaming while being roasted alive in a nuclear holocaust.
  • The 2020 Halloween Zombie Apocalypse. Highlights here.
    • First there's the creepy siren wailing in the background, signaling the start of the outbreak. Followed closely by the darkest, foggiest, and rainiest thunderstorm ever, followed by all the city's power going out.
    • The zombies themselves. Every single local all of a sudden gets super aggressive, all local cars are on fire and can't be lockpicked to escape, and if a character dies, they'll become a zombie with a health bar that's always maxed out. Meaning that if your friend is a zombie, they've got Nigh-Invulnerability and you will pretty much not be able to take them down.
    • There's something incredibly disconcerting about seeing the normally sweet Tessa — even dressed up as her best friend Bryce for Halloween — as a zombie, snarling and attacking people.
    • It's also distressing to see the security breakdown at MRPD, as it's overrun with zombies. Or to hear characters like Officer Knight, Lananote , and OTT screaming as they and their friends are attacked by zombies.
    • By the end, Mel is one of the only people left standing, and he's flat-out panicking while being chased by zombified versions of his friends Kelly, Gladys, Four Tee, and Tessa (among others), who aren't dropping even as he shoots them. He's on the radio with Eugene and Bryce, but they're nowhere close to him, and can't rescue him. And he doesn't get out of the city in time, roasting alive when the city is nuked.
Mel: I want my final words to be: PRUNE GAAAAAAANG!!!! [dies in nuclear explosion]
  • Dundee's Cold-Blooded Torture of Detective Pond is absolutely horrifying, involving (among other awful things) Eye Scream and Fingore.note  When Detective Bundy finds Pond, she's barely conscious in the middle of a gory horror show.
    • Dundee is normally The Bogan and a Large Ham, making it far scarier when his voice gets low and soft — like a demon — as he taunts Pond.
Dundee: Look at me. Look at me. I own you now.
    • Even more awful: most of the time the rest of the cops don't know anything is going on. The situation even starts out somewhat silly. Mike Block and Four Tee take Pond hostage to try and locate some petty bank robbers who had not paid Mike a "Block Tax." After a few minutes of searching, they have Pond drive them to the Alta Street Apartments, where they run into the Bondi Boys, and Dundee offers Mike $51 in exchange for Pond, and makes her go off duty so she can't be tracked. Not long after, Dundee calls Four Tee and asks her how much body parts sell for, and Four Tee immediately knows what Dundee's doing. It's only a stroke of luck for the cops that they eventually catch Mike with Pond's PD cruiser — he is the first to tell the police that Pond has been kidnapped, and in exchange for a reduced sentence, Mike says that he handed Pond over to Dundee, mentioning what Dundee had said to Four Tee on the phone.
    • It's also alarming to see the normally by-the-book Bundy pissed the fuck off with Tranquil Fury, breaking SOP's when he pulls out a Class 2 assault rifle during his search for Pond, and when he breaks into Dundee's house in the Billabong to leave a threatening note on Dundee's bedside table.
