The Fittoa Teleportation Disaster. A pillar of light from the sky shoots down and then starts expanding to engulf everyone in its wake. Everyone then got teleported to parts unknown without knowing if their family and friends are safe. Several people even died during the disaster. The Fittoa region is destroyed following the teleportation, forcing survivors to move out or build new homes.
The story also explores the implications of what happens when a random teleportation to anywhere occurs. Some were stranded in places they could never possibly survive, making Rudeus, Ruijerd and Eris some of the luckiest for at least having the training necessary in the Demon Continent; while Paul could protect his daughters, something like the Teleport Labyrinth that Zenith ended up in was functionally a death sentence for most people on the planet, period, with only absolutely dumb luck saving her. Nanahoshi and Rudeus theorize that many had not-so-lucky destinations, such as in terrain where it may as well have instantly gibbed them, or high up in the sky where there was nothing but the inevitable fall down. Now keep in mind that were they just not outright killed by the disaster outright, this happened to virtually everyone in Fittoa but those lucky enough to be on the outer rims, away from the radius of the magic.
After having a talk with Geese at the tavern, Paul returns home at night and puts Norn to sleep. While doing so he sees a vision of Rudy looking at Norn happily, then suddenly sees Rudy on the floor dying with missing limbs, blaming Paul for being too late to save him. Paul then goes outside and splashes himself to clear his mind.
Ruijerd and Eris are frozen in fear in Orsted's presence. With Ruijerd outright demanding Rudeus to not move a muscle. Rudeus is confused by their behavior.
Then Rudeus tries to talk with Orsted. The conversation seemingly goes well... until Rudeus mentions Hitogami. In an instant, the previously calm Orsted turns murderous and moves in for the kill. Rudeus only has a split second to see Orsted's hand plunge into his body, before his companion's swift actions save his life.
Rudeus's Foresight Eyes become a hindrance against such a monstrous enemy. Merely glancing at Orsted only shows him a vision of the latter's hand punching right through his stomach, causing him to paw at his torso in a panic for an attack that never comes until...
Before Rudeus can do anything, Orsted approaches him and destroys his lungs with a mere touch to prevent him from using magic.
After realizing Rudeus can do incantation-less spellcasting, Orsted grabs Rudeus and impales his chest with bare hands, leaving Rudeus to die before being revived at Nanahoshi's request.
Eris crying in despair as she sees Rudeus dying and desperately calls for anyone to save him.
Rudeus' nightmare. It starts with him being back in Boreas home having a party with all his family and friends. He takes a peek outside the window and sees Orsted's face. A jar is broken and the party becomes quiet with no people. Then the scene shifts to his past self in his room in Japan. When he opens the window he sees his family and friends outside. His chest gets impaled again, and the camera goes inside the hole to reveal Orsted. The nightmare ends with a zoom to Orsted's eye, and switches to Rudeus' eye as he wakes up.
When Rudeus goes to meet Nanahoshi in the Academy, he's shocked when he sees her white mask. Then he dashed out of the room in horror while gasping as he remembers the encounter with Orsted. When Nanahoshi approaches him again, Rudeus passed out from sheer stress. After regaining consciousness, he's still scared of Nanahoshi before she says that she's no longer with Orsted.
