Nightmare Fuel / Monster Hunter (2020)

Go To

  • The first half-hour of the film is essentially a horror movie, as Artemis's squad quickly discovers they are severely outmatched against a wyvern the size of an aircraft carrier.
    • The Black Diablos is super-persistent in chasing down the team and doesn't even flinch against the team's gunfire. Hell, it even tanked an RPG in its face without any visible damage.
    • EVERYTHING related to the Nerscyllas. Yes, they come in hordes. If you think one or two in the main game is horrifying enough, think again.
      • After the team found a temporary haven in the cave and reaffirm that they'll fight to the last, Artemis suddenly got grabbed by something from behind. It's only then they realized the Black Diablos outside isn't their only problem in this world...
      • Link's death. Artemis escapes from the Nerscylla nest, finding only Link left alive, though he can barely move and one of his arms doesn't work. As they're moving towards the opening, he complains of extreme pain. Finally, he pulls his shirt off... to discover the left side of his chest is covered in egg sacs. At which point they start hatching...
      • The hatching isn't what kills him though. As he's helplessly swatting away at the babies, a grown Nerscylla snatches him screaming, before another one snatches him from it and his screams are silenced.
      • The Nerscyllas trying to break through the hunter's hideout and it seems like they'll break in at anytime. It must be seen to be believed, and it's every bit terrifying.
  • Before they were being chased by the Black Diablos, they found the remains of the Bravo Team, which got mutilated by some extreme heat so much that the sand around them got melted into glass. But the attacker is nowhere to be seen.
    • Remember how powerful Fatalis's fire breath was in World, which has a wide range and can melt even the strongest barriers? The Rathalos did nearly just that.
    • Shortly after returning to the modern world, Artemis finds herself leaving the area via plane. Cue the Rathalos coming out of the portal like a bat out of hell, dive-bombing before the plane and through a POV shot, we see its jaws fill up the cockpit's window before biting it off with the pilots still inside, who are then crushed by the jaws closing.
      • Despite Artemis managing to cause the Rathalos to rupture by shooting an explosive into its mouth before it breathes fire, the Rathalos gets up, enraged, and attempts to outright devour her, causing her to scream in terror.
