Nightmare Fuel / Jekyll & Hyde

Go To

  • Anthony Warlow's scream as Jekyll transforms into Hyde is horrifying. The chaotic music, in minor key, really sells the idea that the transformation hurts.
  • Jekyll writing in his journal as he describes what happens while he is Hyde. At first he enjoys it, but soon realizes he can't control it at all.
  • The way Hyde beats and burns the Asshole Victim Bishop of Basingstoke to death is pretty scary.
  • In the Broadway production Hyde kills Glossop by ramming his sword down his throat.
  • Hyde kills Lady Beaconsfield by strangling her in some versions and cutting off her head in others.
  • "Reflections," which paraphrases directly from the book, has Jekyll coming to terms with being Hyde even after he's killed people, as he won't kill himself and revels in Hyde's love for life.
  • The rarely-used song The World Has Gone Insane features either Jekyll having an awful nightmare or vividly hallucinating, transforming into Hyde for the latter portion of the song. Some productions have him attacked by the specters of those Hyde killed.
  • Early concepts had Simon Stride sabotage Jekyll's chemicals with intent to poison or kill, using Terms of Endangerment to top it off.
  • Just before "It's a Dangerous Game," Jekyll is in Lucy's room and bids her goodnight, but Hyde takes over almost immediately. This exchange occurs.
    Jekyll: Lucy, my dear...
    [Hyde approaches her]
Lucy: For a moment I thought it was someone else.
Hyde: For a moment it almost was.
  • Hyde's "Sympathy, Tenderness" reprise as he is gleefully killing Lucy.
  • "Confrontation" has Jekyll fighting with Hyde for control of the body, arguing and screaming at himself as both sides forcibly take over. Some versions have Jekyll attempting to kill himself, only for Hyde to take control and prevent it.
  • This two-person Confrontation has Hyde take a knife to himself/Jekyll.
  • The wedding has Hyde fighting off the wedding guests, snapping Simon Stride's neck and holding Lisa/Emma hostage under threat of death.
