"Huh?" Says the guy that's about to kill you.

This is a game about real stories that happened to people. Thank god that these people lived to tell the tale...

  • To start, the villains in every chapter are terrifying in retrospect: The stalker in Home Alone (also known as Grandpa in the files) is quite disturbing. He's not a normal robber, and although it's not confirmed that he stole anything, he could've been entirely there to kill Miles, keep in mind Miles is a young teen during this.
  • The two guys in Norwoods Hitchhike, yes, two, are even worse than the Grandpa. They first drug Holly with fake coffee, notice while she's dazed, the man in a white shirt (who comes back in the final chapter) walks into Holly's closet, serving as a jumpscare for unsuspecting players. The second man (an African American) doesn't really do anything, since the white shirt does all the work, but it's still pretty eerie knowing that two dudes are both setting up traps to kidnap Holly...
  • Cara in Carson House is by the far the most terrifying on this list. The first thing to note is the paranoia that comes with her, she could be anywhere, and it doesn't help by the end, she isn't the one hiding, YOU ARE. When she jump scares you, its even worse. You see her slasher smile and sadistic look, and, in the case of Noah, Cara doesn't want to love him, she wants to kill him.
    • Cara in particular is terrifying compared to the other threats. The other villains are just strangers who have no connection with the protagonists. Cara, on the other hand, is Noah's vengeful drug-addicted ex-girlfriend. She is someone he knew, even if it was for a brief period. Her reason for being in Carson's house is personal: she has intentions to kill Noah for breaking up with her. The fact that she says If I Can't Have You… only cements her threat level.
  • The cultists in Ironbark Lookout are a close second right behind Cara. After witnessing Jack take a picture of them, one of their members tries to kill him, and the thing is... this member has been stalking you since you started. That's right, the member that's been stalking you the most, is chasing you. After all, why would a member that doesn't even know you, chase you?
    • An earlier scare you encounter is Jack waking up to see a hooded figure standing outside his watchtower looking in at him. If the cultist wasn’t there to leave the skull at his doorstep, there’s a very good chance that Jack would have been killed in his sleep.
    • There’s another event where Jack is assisting a lost hiker. Even if you give him the right direction to reach the trailhead, it doesn’t matter. A cultist is implied to have found him. When Jack tries to warn the hiker, the communication suddenly stops and Jack is met by Billy with his supplies. Although it’s never addressed in the game, Jack probably felt guilt for letting the hiker meet an unfortunate end. Additionally, it’s possible see the body of the hiker at the cultists’ site, confirming that the person you helped is actually dead.
  • The jumpscare sound, when an enemy jumps at you, you hear a dreary, robotic, angry sound, it's almost as if you got jumpscared by a FNAF animatronic. When you are far enough away, you get another robot sound, this time a long stretched out screaming robot as the enemy charges at you.
  • And on that note, when an enemy charges at you. Sure, Chapter 2's White shirt guy may look a little goofy when he's chasing you, but Cara's disturbing limp, The cultist charging at you ready to slice you open with his sickle, and the shadowy stranger running at you.
