And this isn't even the most horrifying part of the game.

Don't be fooled by the cheery aesthetic and atmosphere. This is still a Nitro+CHiRAL game, so expect horrifying things to happen.

Warning: Spoilers Off applies to these pages. Proceed at your own risk.

General

  • Aoba's ability is Paranoia Fuel in itself. It's basically Inception using Jedi Mind Trick (with a Compelling Voice), but it can inflict Mind Rape. If you are unlucky enough to be Sly Blue's victim, there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it, let alone even be aware of it.
    • Sei's Scrap is even worse, as he can use that ability using his eyes. And unlike Aoba, Sei has full control of his abilities. Never before being stared at is this scary.
  • Toue's grand plan is basically to brainwash the entirety of Midorijima (and yes, this refers to both Platinum Jail and the Old Residential District) to form brain-dead people living in an Orwellian dystopia where everyone is essentially empty in the blink of an eye. And it's strongly hinted that his plans do not stop at the unfortunate island. Sweet dreams.
  • When Aoba gets forcefully pulled into Rhyme, the creature that appears before him — who is actually Noiz in his avatar — is rather creepy, especially when it starts speaking in a distorted voice, complete with jumbled text.
  • The members of Morphine looks... off, as it's hard to tell whether they're looking into nothing, or right into you. What makes it worse is that they only turned out that way because of the horrifying Mind Rape they were forced to undergo after they were forcibly kidnapped. And the Morphine members that show up are the more successful subjects. What then happened to the ones who aren't as successful?
  • Poor Mizuki gets Mind Raped twice in a row. Fortunately he manages to recover, but still. In addition, there is his Scrap sequence in re:code...
  • The Scrap sequences are indeed surreal, but some falls into this category due to the things that happens inside it. Only Clear's Scrap sequence averts this.
    • Noiz's "glitch" scene in his Scrap sequence can be unnerving for those who didn't expect it, to the point that players thought that the game itself was actually crashing. Before that, the disembodied arms and its sound effect can be pretty jarring. Also, their goddamned voices.
  • The AllMate guards in Oval Tower. At first glance, they look relatively normal. But then their faces open up. And inside their faces are guns that can shoot lasers, lasers that are deadly enough to kill you if you're not quick enough to dodge in time.
  • Each time Mink rapes Aoba can be rather disturbing due how realistic and brutal it is, particularly the agony and helplessness Aoba feels throughout. You can't help but wince whenever he gets hit, or feel like you're choking for air whenever he gets strangled.
  • Koujaku assaulting Aoba in Glitter out of sheer rage during his route. Koujaku was instantly set off as a result of Aoba associating with Ryuuhou, which made his sentient tattoos take over completely, and was only stopped by Aoba using Scrap to snap him out of it. Making things worse is that Koujaku’s Bad Ending confirms that Koujaku is aware of what he’s doing, but his tattoos have completely taken control over his mind and body and is left unable to do anything about it.

Bad Endings

  • The "iiyo" scene in Koujaku's Scrap sequence if the player makes the wrong choice is nothing but unsettling, even if taken onto context.
  • Koujaku's bad ending is pretty brutal. Koujaku never recovers from his Unstoppable Rage and the tattoos take over his mind completely, while Aoba loses himself to his Superpowered Evil Side and basically transforms into an entirely different person. Koujaku is kept in a cage, now having devolved into nothing more than a feral and violent beast, and "Shiroba" happily treats him like a plaything. And during his sex scene with Koujaku in re:connect, the latter (who has grown fangs, mind you) bites Shiroba while giving him oral sex. Shiroba mentions that it could possibly be severed while smiling and moaning in pleasure the whole time. Yeah...
  • Noiz's bad ending stands out for the being the ending with the most Gorn, since Aoba and Noiz are stuck in the other's mindscape, which is now a sea of blood that they lie in whilst in the other's embrace. On top of this, they are covered in multiple cuts that are both shallow and deep to the point that the player can even see the bone through the lacerated flesh... because Noiz's desire to feel pain manifests in them getting wounded whenever they touch each other. In re:connect, this is taken up to eleven with a dash of Nausea Fuel, since the player is shown in explicit detail what exactly happened in Noiz's mindscape for them to end up in the state they were in from the CG. It doesn't help that the sound effects further escalates the horror and squick factor. This could be truly terrifying to any player who is easily squeamish.
  • Mink's bad ending, while much more subtle, is no less disturbing. The instant he talks about how a human's soul lies in the head, the player already has an idea about what will happen next. And when it does happen, the CG that shows the aftermath is very haunting, and what doesn't help is that the only sounds accompanying the scene is the dripping of blood and a slow, deliberate heartbeat. The only mitigating factor here is that when compared to what happens to Aoba in every other bad ending, at least in this ending, Aoba is killed swiftly instead of being forced to suffer a Fate Worse than Death.
  • Clear's bad ending has him reprogrammed, which strips him of all of his kind traits, but his love for Aoba remains. However, this is far from a good thing. Without his grasp of morality, Clear resorts to keeping Aoba by his side forever, and to ensure this, he has to transform Aoba into a "doll"... by taking out his voice, eyes, and limbs. re:connect even shows one of the surgeries in unsparingly gruesome detail, with Aoba screaming in pain as Clear removes his eyeballs in a surgery. The worst part is that Clear decided to not use anesthesia beforehand.
Clear: Pain isn't very enjoyable, so I was wondering whether or not to use an anesthetic... and I've decided not to. With pain, won't your lost emotions gush forward?
  • Ren's bad ending has him "becoming one" with Aoba by eating Aoba, while raping him. What doesn't help is how the background is black for most of the time until you see a sudden flash of the gory CG with a sudden static noise before the whole CG is slowly shown in full view at the very end.
  • Virus and Trip's "route", where they kidnap Aoba and not only force him to be their Sex Slave, but have their AllMates rape him multiple times. Aoba is mentally dead at this point. Like always, re:connect doesn't shy away from showing the distressing details of Aoba's ordeal as their captive.
    • Virus' bad ending has him locking up Aoba in a small box as punishment when Aoba refused to obey his commands, with Aoba suffering in extreme pain as he falls into hopelessness. Aoba starts to hyperventilate while endlessly pounding against the box before letting out a scream of despair so primal that the player can feel his anguish.
    • In Trip's bad ending, Aoba is assaulted by Trip's lion AllMate, causing him no end of pain. Hearing his screams and cries the whole time just makes it harder to watch or even listen to.
