Nightmare Fuel / Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman

Go To

  • The cover art for the VHS, seen on the main work page. While Alvin looks confident and cocky, and his brothers look scared or intrigued, in the background, you can see the Wolfman himself peeking around a tree, contrasting against the moonlight. The way he looks directly ahead definitely feels like he's not just hunting the Chipmunks, he's staring down anybody holding their copy of the movie. As he lurks off in the distance, it's an ominous, foreboding sign that this movie is going to be more frightening than usual...
    • Even worse, Theodore is shown sporting fangs, claws, longer hair, and pointed ears, having turned into a werewolf himself. And Simon is staring at him in horror, clearly having noticed the changes of his and Alvin's little brother.
  • The opening sequence shows a scary backdrop at night during a full moon. Sinister music playing in the background, a werewolf heard howling and then the film's title shows in bright red and yellow.
  • Alvin's nightmare in the beginning showing him attempting to escape from being hunted down by a werewolf. At first the creature's growls are heard. Then a close up of its eyeball searching for Alvin as its prey. Then a brief shot of the creature in full view against the moonlight in the scary woods as it attacks Alvin, disappearing into its jaws as shown from Alvin's point of view. No wonder he wakes up screaming.
  • Theodore's stuffed bunny toy looks a little unnerving to say the least.
  • Alvin attempts to fall asleep, only to hear the sounds of a werewolf howling again. And this time, he wasn't dreaming.
  • When we meet Lawrence Talbot in this movie for the first time, it becomes understandable why Alvin is freaked out by him, with his constant mood swings and tendency to growl when he speaks. Plus there's the fact he seems to be watching the moon when he hastily excuses himself to leave...
    • Also, when Mr. Talbot complains about Alvin's screaming at night, Dave explains that it was because he was scared by the howling of Talbot's dog. Talbot responds that he doesn't have a dog, but he does have bones in his house, as Alvin tricks him into confessing.
  • Theodore walking home late at night after dropping off a gift for his friend and crush Eleanor when he stops and hears growling and howling noises. He calls out for his brothers hoping that it is a prank, but nothing. We don't get a good look at the creature, but we can see from its point of view as it ambushes a frightened Theodore from the shrubbery.
  • After being bitten by "a dog", Theodore has trouble sleeping. He tosses and turns and growls in his sleep. Then the moonlight illuminates the Mark of the Wolf on his left palm. With scary instrumental music building in the background.
  • Theodore's personality and behavioral changes are enough to make even Alvin and Simon concerned. First it was the craving for meat knowing that Theodore doesn't eat meat, but then he takes off running at an inhuman high running speed.
  • In-Universe, Theodore gives a terrifying performance onstage as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Even the teacher and the principal are shaken up by it.
  • Near the end of the song sequence "Monster Out In You", Alvin and Simon get scared off by the shadow of a werewolf, which belongs to Theodore in werewolf form. Only he's not the cute puppy in his early state, but a vicious full-fledged wolf. And then he turns to the viewers snarling at them. A chilling vision of things to come.
  • When asking Madame Raya for help on curing their brother of being a werewolf, Madame Raya tells Simon and Alvin that there are only two known ways to cure lycanthropy: shoot a werewolf with a silver bullet or beat them to death with a silver cane. Alvin and Simon are shocked, as this was their baby brother they were referring to and ask her if there was any other way a werewolf can be cured alive.
Simon: B-but then wouldn't he be... you know? (does a Throat-Slitting Gesture)
Madame Raya: Dead? Yeah! But he would be cured.
  • Madame Raya warns Alvin and Simon to end Theodore of his werewolf curse before the next wolf moon, otherwise he'll be doomed to become a full-fledged werewolf.
  • Right before the play, Theodore pants Alvin and quips that "The moon's out early tonight!". And then Simon looks up at the window showing the full moon.
Simon: (clears throat) A-Alvin! He's right!
  • When Dave goes to Mr. Talbot's to apologize for Alvin breaking his cane, unbeknownst to Dave, Mr. Talbot is watching the full moon rising in the distance.
    • Talbot crossly explains to Dave that his cane was a family heirloom and its wolf-shaped handle was made from the silver bullets fired at his grandfather by angry villagers.
Dave: Uh, w-what, um, what did he do to make them so angry? If you don't mind my asking.
Talbot: Not at all. Perhaps, in a few minutes, I will show you... (holds up his hand in the moon's light, revealing the Mark of the Wolf appearing on his palm)
    • As Dave continues to explain Alvin's behavior, he doesn't notice Mr. Talbot undergoing a slow horrific transformation into a werewolf. His roar is enough to make Dave jump at first. Then when Dave turns to confront Mr. Talbot about his sudden temper tantrum, he is left stuttering in fear over seeing Mr. Talbot in his full werewolf form. Eyes glowing red.
  • Dave is a human trying to escape an angry werewolf and only manages to get away out of sheer luck by holding up pieces of a broken cane which contains silver. As he's seen all those old Hollywood movies, he knows that werewolves hate silver. Buying him enough time to escape.
  • When Dave runs away from werewolf Mr. Talbot, his first priority is to get to the school as soon as possible and warn the kids. Not too far behind him, an enraged Mr. Talbot storms out of his house and lets out a wolf's howl to the night sky before continuing the chase.
  • When Dave reaches the school and stops to take a breath, he sees to his horror that Mr. Talbot is still coming after him, meaning he is leading the werewolf to the kids. Then he accidentally knocks himself unconscious from running into a light post, but Mr. Talbot doesn't attack him (since he's still holding the silver part of the cane) and instead turns his attention to the children. Namely Eleanor out on the swings talking to herself.
  • When Mr. Talbot breaks into the school in his werewolf form. At first nobody does anything as they believe it's all part of the school play. But the children were in real danger.
  • Theodore becoming a werewolf during the school play, and he is no longer a puppy but now a full-fledged wolf with the need to hunt for fresh meat. Simon gets first honor of meeting him up close and personal
  • It takes Alvin warning Eleanor that the werewolf she's complaining about isn't wearing makeup, Theodore really is a werewolf.
  • When Were!Theodore confronts Brittany, she just scoffs at him and slaps him with the branches she's holding as part of her tree costume, unaware of the fact his act is for real. But then she comes across a much bigger werewolf, Mr. Talbot, and promptly Faints in Shock. Thankfully, Talbot leaves her alone, apparently only interested in moving targets.
  • After spending the entire film being scared and paranoid of Mr. Talbot, Alvin confirms he had every reason to once he gets chased by the man-turned-wolfman.
  • Eleanor getting chased and cornered by Were!Theodore, with her pleas for him to recognize her going unheard. If it wasn't for the necklace she was wearing, she would have been mauled on the spot.
  • After Were!Theodore comes to his senses, Eleanor tries to help him, only to encounter the Wolfman who leaps down and lands right in front of her. Luckily, Theodore pushes her out of the way before the bigger werewolf pounces on her.
  • The Wolfman prepares to kill Were!Theodore with one blow from his paw once he pins the smaller werewolf to the ground. That is, until Were!Theodore bites him...
  • Just the thought that Mr. Talbot had been suffering the curse of the Wolfman for his whole life due to inheriting it from his grandfather. He even goes to humbly thank Theodore for finally curing him after all these years.
