Narm Charm / Fire Emblem Engage

It's no secret that Fire Emblem Engage is loaded with Narm as a whole, even unintentionally. However, there are many things that prove the game knows it's cheesy, and wholeheartedly embraces it.


  • The English opening theme is so cheesy and stupid, but it's so unashamed and energetic that it loops right back around to being charming. People have likened it to an anime opening considering the vibe of the song!
  • The very concept of Engaging. Let's be real here, "engaging" isn't the most fancy way to put it, but who wouldn't find teaming up with your favorite characters amazing in the slightest? It helps that there are many benefits to engaging with an Emblem mid-battle alongside making your characters look like an anime main protagonist imbued with The Power of Friendship ready to absolutely mess up anyone in their path.
  • While Alear's design has plenty of detractors for having a haphazard color scheme, some people find it so ridiculous that it flips back to being kinda cute and endearing.
  • The game's plot is cliché-filled camp, relying heavily on stock plot elements (from the evil dragon-worshipping cult to the protagonist's parent dying early on) and featuring The Power of Friendship as a main theme. However, there are fans who absolutely love how cheesy and shameless it is, combined with the fact that a plot like this would work well for a Saturday-Morning Cartoon in the early 2000s.
  • Male Alear's voice in general. They sound super done with the wacky and lively cast around them, but the sheer concern and worry they display towards the characters alongside having a sassy vibe around them makes them more endearing and understandable. After all, being around an army of (mostly) weirdos does that to you.
  • In a late-game flashback, Alear tells Lumera that they "want to be a good dragon" when they wake up. Although it sounds silly, in context Alear was heavily emotionally-stunted due to growing up under Sombron's horrible abuse, so such an innocent, child-like desire to be better feels both realistic and incredibly sad.
  • Everything about the Emblems reviving Alear into the 13th Emblem is so over the top and cheesy that it wraps around to being genuinely fun, especially with how Alear becomes the titular Fire Emblem. At the very end of the game, Alear resummons every Emblem back to their side, rapid fire incanting and replaying their intro animations, topping it off with their own incantation, standing proud and tall alongside all of the other Emblems, giving a genuine The Power of Friendship speech to Sombron, all while a rocking guitar version of the main theme plays. It is so ridiculously campy and yet so earnest that you just can't help but love it.

  • Even though it was predictable and drawn out, Lumera's death is still genuinely saddening with the score combined and the visceral pain Alear and the others feel in their voices help to make at least what would've been, or still probably is an unintentionally hilarious moment become a legitimately tragic or tolerable scene due to the immaculate voice acting of everyone involved, so much to the point that even some people who disliked it can agree that the acting for the scene in question is beyond reproach!
  • After Hortensia tries to hold Seforia hostage, gets Brainwashed and Crazy, and then apologises for it, Seforia tells her off with an angry expression on her face for how she can make up to her - by helping Alear. What brings it into Narm Charm is that Seforia just acts mildly irritated at the fact Hortensia literally held her hostage like a parent scolding a child... and Hortensia literally is a child.
