Mythology Gag / Power Rangers Ninja Steel

Go To

  • The monster from the first episode, who also uses the same costume as Mig from Operation Overdrive, is from the "Ninninger Galaxy".
  • Every ninja attribute the Rangers call out in their roll call is also one of the animal attributes from the Jungle Fury roll call. (The Sixth Ranger breaks the streak, with "Rhythm" instead of "Courage.") Also, a ninja series' Red Ranger's first focus episode is about him rushing into battle without the others and having to learn that, well, there's no I in team. (Albeit with the 'over-reliance on the data-com' angle that wasn't in the Ninja Storm episode.note )
  • Ninja Steel Yellow's helmet and visor bears a remarkable resemblance to the head of the Transwarp Megazord.
  • When Preston performs a magic attack on a monster, he declares it "Easy", a reference to his Ninninger counterpart's catchphrase.
    • Similarly, Brody once says “This is hot!” (The Rangers had just used a new fire attack.)
  • During the Rangers' dance party at the end of episode 6, Preston does part of the dance seen during Ninninger's ending theme, specifically the throwing star motion.
  • The data-com and therefore the Rangers' communicators make an alert jingle you know quite well if you've been watching for a while, though it's tweaked later.
  • The Lion Fire Fortress first appears at the end of #8, being identified as a red lion-themed spaceship from the Leo Galaxy — almost exactly like Shishi Voyager in Uchu Sentai Kyuranger, which started shortly after Ninja Steel did. Either Ninja Steel's production had enough advance notice of Toei's Kyuranger plans to make the reference, or it's a heck of a coincidence. It also transforms and combines similarly to Pyramidas.
  • Victor and Monty stealing a cow calls back to the 2017 Power Rangers's opening scene.
  • When Phonepanzee is gigantified, Cosmo says “Make my monkey grow!” This of course harkens back to Rita and Zedd’s “Make my monster grow!” exclamation from the original series.
    • The same episode also features a White Ranger and love interest in a school election, their tension exploited by the Big Bad. Rita did exactly the same thing once back in the day.
  • Like Bulk and Skull, Victor and Monty try to become superheroes for the attention in "Live and Learn".
  • The last two words of one of Madame Odius’s spells: “Ninpo Kinji.” (Kinji being the gold ranger of Ninninger, and Ninpo meaning ninja technique.)
  • In "Poisonous Plots", the Rangers trick Madame Odious with fake Power Stars made out of chocolate. This is similar to the events of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode "A Monster of Global Proportions", where the Mighty Morphin team tricked Goldar with chocolate versions of their Power Coins.
  • Foxatron being a villain mech having battery draining issues brings to mind Serpentera from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2.
  • In "Outfoxed", one of the mystery figures states that they like the Ranger teens, as they have "attitude". The original Mighty Morphin team were described as "Teenagers with attitude".
  • "Dimensions In Danger" draws many elements from the comics' "Shattered Grid" event, the other big celebration for the franchise's 25th year.
  • Tommy being able to assume any of his past Ranger forms at will makes him the PR version of AkaRed.
  • After Mick is turned into a werewolf in "Fan Frenzy", he looks at himself in a mirror, and states that he looks like a troll, or a yeti. Kelson Henderson previously portrayed the Troblin (part-troll, part-goblin) Phineas in Power Rangers Mystic Force and the yeti Norg in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive.
  • Tynamon's secret is that his human sized body is not his body, but rather a robotic suit with the real Tynamon being a small creature operating it, brings to mind Zurgane (of Power Rangers Ninja Storm)'s sentai counterpart, who was an ant-like creature controlling a human-sized robot body (while an action figure of Zurgane suggested he was the same, it was never brought up in the show itself).
  • In the second Halloween episode, Preston and Levi dress as a caveman and knight, respectively, bringing to mind their immediate predecessors Koda and Ivan.
  • Reaching just outside of Super Sentai, the title of Sheriff Skyfire nods to how the Metal Heroes series that Jiraiya originates from started out as the Space Sheriff series before they went with broader themes and naming terms. Interestingly enough, Uchu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad revealed that a new Jiraya was part of the latter group.
  • After Madame Odious fuses with the Nexus Prism. She gains a robotic voice filter similar to Trakeena's when she is infused with Deviot's personality after killing him.
  • "Tough Love" involves the Sixth Ranger begin turned evil by a spell from the villains.
  • In "Attack of the Galactic Ninjas", four of the six Rangers lost their memories, similar to what happened in the MMPR episode "When is a Ranger Not a Ranger?".
