• The Tagline for the first live-action movie saying "It's not a Diary, it's a movie" is a nod to Greg's famous "It's not a diary, it's a journal" quote.
• The poster for the first movie shows live-action!Greg frowning heavily with his backpack, a reference to the cover art for the first book.
• Throughout the movies, several scenes that are/weren't adapted into the movie are animated the same way they are in the books.
  • In the first live-action movie, Frank and Susan aww over Manny drawing on Greg's bedroom door. This adapts a similar scene from the first book.
  • From the same movie, Greg punches Rowley in the face, telling him that "if you're hand is bigger than your face, it's a sign of low intelligence". A similar thing happened in the first book.
  • The second live-action movie has Greg rubbing his butt on the floor to talk to Holly. A similar thing happened in The Last Straw where Greg scooted over to Holly to try to talk to her.
• In the first movie, Rodrick gets angry and threatens to kill Greg and Rowley for trespassing in his room. A similar thing happened in the third book, The Last Straw, where Rodrick looked pretty pissed when he saw Greg and Rowley playing in his room without his permission.
