The Navajo Nation (or Diné as they call themselves) of the Southwestern United States has their own rich mythology intertwined with their tribal religion.
Navajo Mythology provides examples of:
- Bash Brothers: Nayenezgani and Tobadzischini, twin brothers who slew the Anaye.
- Creation Myth: The Navajo creation myth Diné Bahaneʼ sees humanity emerge upwards through four worlds.
- God of Fire: Black God (Haashchʼééshzhiní) is a fire deity who was the first being to learn how to generate fire and invented the fire drill.
- Theme Table: In this case, each of the cardinal directions are linked to (among other things) colours, types of corn and rain, a type of animal, and one of the underworlds the Navajos passed through in Diné Bahaneʼ, the creation myth.
- Those Wily Coyotes: Naturally being the Trope Maker, Coyote plays into many origin myths.
