  • Ascended Extra: John Robert C., Steven Sanchez, and Andrew Petway both started off as live fill-ins before getting hired on full-time.
  • Audience Participation Song: "The Box": "TURN THIS WORLD! UPSIDE DOWN!"
  • Deathcore: Originally started off as a brutal deathcore act with a lot of nu metal and beatdown hardcore influence, then slowly began moving more and more towards nu deathcore, before moving back towards a mix of both styles on Machina Non Grata.
  • Dramatic Gun Cock: Used as a sample to kick off a breakdown in "Dirt Nap Atrophy".
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The material prior to Soulless Hymns was largely straightforward brutal deathcore with some nu metal elements, with none of the stoner metal or groove metal elements that would later come to define their sound.
  • Formerly Fat: John slimmed down substantially between Machina Non Grata and the self-titled.
  • Genre Mashup: A mix of deathcore, nu metal, groove metal, beatdown hardcore, and stoner metal, with the ratio of each varying with each album.
  • Grief Song: "Invictus Unto Fire" was, as per John Robert C., intended to be a hypothetical one of these for a fictional scenario, but wound up accidentally becoming a genuine one when a very good friend of his died after he wrote it.
  • Large Ham: John Robert C. is known for his energetic and vociferous stage presence and particularly his many mosh calls and profanity-laden rants to stir up crowds.
  • Lead Bassist: Mike Menocker was a Type B, as he handled all high vocals.
  • Lyrical Cold Open:
    • "I WOKE UP IN A HOLE!"
    • "LIBERATION!"
  • Metal Scream: Storm Strope was a Type 2 and Type 3, while John Robert C. primarily stuck to a Type 1 with occasional Type 2 lows. Tyler Beam is a mix of both Storm Strope and John Robert C., using Types 1, 2, and 3. Mike Menocker was strictly a Type 3, while Andrew Petway is a Type 1.
  • Misogyny Song: "Guillotine Queen", describing a Manipulative Bitch who toys with everyone she comes across.
  • Motive Rant: John Robert C. kicks off "The Sabbath" with one of these.
"None of you are important! Not one! Not you, not me! We are not special, we are not unique, life as you know it is a fucking waste and no one loves you because love is bullshit! HATE CHURCH!
  • Murder Ballad: "Ballad of the Butcher", which overlaps with Reluctant Psycho, and "Birth of the Butcher", which plays this straight.
  • Nu Metal: A major part of their sound, especially from Soulless Hymns onward, with The Violent Sound and the self-titled going the furthest in this direction; in general, they are one of the most famous nu deathcore acts, along with Suicide Silence, Slaughter to Prevail, Spite, Brand of Sacrifice, and Left to Suffer.
  • Soprano and Gravel: Wyatt McLaughlin does occasional clean vocals, most famously on "The Drip".
  • Special Guest: Jamie Hanks (I Declare War), Ricky Myers, Devin Swank, and Ben Mason (Bound in Fear) have been vocal guests on album, while Steven Sanchez started out as a fill-in drummer and Andrew Petway (The Merciless Concept) was originally a fill-in bassist.
  • Surprisingly Gentle Song: Zigzagged in regards to "Vampire: A Blood Ballad": while most of the song is made up of clean singing, it also has some heavy parts that keep it from being completely soft.
  • The Stoner: The whole band and especially John love their weed, and by his own admission, John almost never performs sober.
