Have you ever seen a crowd goin’ apeshit?

The Carters are an American musical duo comprised of spouses Beyoncé and Jay-Z. On June 16, 2018, they released Everything Is Love—their first project under the group moniker—though this was far from their first time working together creatively. 2002’s “‘03 Bonnie & Clyde” marked their very first collaboration and from there, many more would come.

In 2014, the two embarked on the On The Run Tour in promotion of their 2013 albums, his Magna Carta…Holy Grail and her eponymous Beyoncé. They followed up in 2018 with the On The Run II Tour during which they dropped their group album.

Get your tropes up high like a false arrest

  • Bonus Material: “Salud!” from Everything Is Love is exclusive to their Tidal streaming service.
  • Break-Up/Make-Up Scenario: In "Lovehappy," Jay mentions that he and his wife had temporarily separated from each other; these vicissitudes in their relationship were first explored in Beyoné's Lemonade back in 2016. Everything Is Love as a whole represents the joy the couple feels now that they are back together, marking the end of the Lemonade saga as well.
    • Beyoncé also makes mention of this with her friends in "Friends."
We fall out and we make amends
Your friends are foes, my friends are goals
  • Confessional: “Family Feud.”
  • Intercourse with You: “Summer.”
  • Kill the Ones You Love: Beyoncé says that Jay was lucky that she didn’t do this to him on “Lovehappy.”
  • Mood Whiplash: The sensual and slow-tempo "Summer" is followed up with the boisterous and braggadocious "Apeshit."
  • N-Word Privileges
  • Old Money: On “Boss,” Beyoncé establishes her and Jay as the source of this for their future descendants.
    My great-great-grandchildren already rich
That’s a lot of brown chirren on your Forbes list
  • Outlaw Couple: Both On The Run tours portray them as this, putting them in theme with their first collaboration.
  • Rearrange the Song: Beyoncé released a solo version of Jay’s “Hollywood” under the name “Welcome to Hollywood” for the deluxe edition of B'Day. Jay can still be heard on the song though he is not credited as a featured artist.
  • Surprise Release: Everything Is Love was this, dropping ten days after the commenced their On The Run II Tour.
  • Trilogy: Beyoncé's Lemonade, Jay-Z's 4:44, and their joint Everything Is Love could be viewed as this given their releases in consecutive years.
  • Uncredited Role: Beyoncé on “Tom Ford” and Jay on “Welcome to Hollywood.”
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: Played with.
    • Played straight with the Beyoncé-led songs and inverted with the Jay-Z-led ones.
    • Completely averted on Everything Is Love as the two are working together and Beyoncé is more often rapping than she is singing, putting her in good company with her husband.
