You think you've won, but I will rise again...
Just want you to know that...
You can't beat me,
You're beneath me
"Beneath Me"

Seraph is a Rock band from Finland. They call themselves "Dark Alternative", but in reality it's just a mix of heavily distorted guitars, New Wave-inspired synths and vocals with an Indie Pop feel. Despite the dark themes of their music, Seraph is well known among their fans for having a very goofy and self-ironic collective sense of humor. The band consists of Bassist and lead vocalist Vlad Lehemski, screamer and founder Niko Kaakinen, guitarist Nikki Angelus, keayboardis Julius Seizure and drummer Dimitry Bonefield.

Although Seraph's current line-up seems quite stable, they were quite the Revolving Door Band in the beginning. All three of the group's singles prior to the release of their first EP had a different lineup.

Discography:

  • Eden (on Fire) Single (2014)
  • Early Grave Single (2015)
  • Be Mine Single (2016)
  • Resurrection EP (2017)
  • Resurrection - Abandoned Tapes Compilation (2017)

Contains Examples Of:

  • All Drummers Are Animals: Inverted. Dimitry Bonefield is in medical school and has a deep interest in electronic devices.
  • Album Filler: Early Grave is largely considered this, mostly by the band themselves. Ironically it probably has the wittiest lyrics of all Seraph songs to accompany the simplistic Punk Rock vibe.
  • Anonymous Band: Most of the band hide behind stage names the only exception being Niko Kaakinen, the band's screamer.
  • B-Side: Resurrection - Abandoned Tapes is a collection of alternate mixes that never made it on the final product. It's strictly available via the band's artistco page.
  • Cover Version:
  • Cultured Badass: Dimitry in particular has a taste for the finer things in life accompanying his muscular physique. Vlad isn't far behind either.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Everyone in the band has a very dark and morbid sense of humor. Kaakinen is arguably the most easy-going and accessible personality in the group, but he isn't that far behind the rest of them. Dimitry and Nikki on the other hand have a reputation for being absolutely ruthless with their humor.
  • Distracted by My Own Sexy: Nikki has a habit of compulsively staring at his own reflection often to the point of arrogantly boasting about how good-looking he thinks he is. Inverted with Vlad who is usually considered as the sexiest member of the group and seems to be completely oblivious to it.
  • The Four Chords of Pop: The chorus on Eden.
  • Genre-Busting: It's really difficult to tell what Seraph's genre is. Funnily enough the group has opened for a rapper and played a handful of metal and goth music events while the most of the audience don't consider them to be either.
  • Geek Physiques: Julius Seizure is a skinny version of this, Kaakinen being in the opposite end.
  • Guyliner: Nikki Angelus generally refuses to make any public appearances without his makeup on.
  • Lead Bassist: Vlad has expressed a strong dislike for simple 8-note basslines and goes to great lengths in order to avoid that, resulting in a very original style with his instrument. He's somewhere between type B and D.
  • Metal Band Mascot: Beelzebunny, the band's stuffed rabbit.
  • Non-Appearing Title: The name "Resurrection" doesn't appear anywhere on their debut EP. Same goes with their song called "Early Grave".
  • Re Release The Song: Eden (on Fire) was re-released in 2016 by the band's publisher for reasons unknown even to the musicians themselves.
  • Revolving Door Band: Seraph has had 4 lineups between 2013 and 2017.
  • Rock Me, Asmodeus!: Played for laughs, Seraph like to incorporate Satanic themes to their marketing style, even calling themselves "The Dark Knights of Beelzebub". The music itself has nothing to do with Satanic imagery.
  • The Rock Star: Nikki Angelus could be considered this due to his fashion choices, charismatic stage presence and loads of attitude that he's packing, making him arguably the most well-known member of the band. Ironically he dislikes his position and hates being called the band's frontman.
  • Stage Names: Big fans of these, especially Nikki who likes to hide under different pseudonyms when doing different tasks eg. David Runk.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Julius, Nikki and Vlad all are over 6 feet tall and sport dark hair.
  • Vocal Range Exceeded: Nikki has arguably the highest singing voice in the band and thus is often tasked with demanding vocal parts. The problem is that he is a baritone like vast majority of the group.
  • Vocal Tag Team: Niko, Vlad and Nikki have been praised for the way they divide their vocal duties.
