Kittens were a three-piece Noise Rock band from Winnipeg. They're notable for including country influences in their music, along with heavy usage of guitar effects. They were active from 1992 to 1999, with a brief reunion show in 2006. However, drummer David Kelly died in 2008, squashing any hopes of any further reunions. They're not to be confused with the American band just called Kitten. A playlist with just about all their albums can be found here.

Tropes about the band

  • Careful with That Axe: See Metal Scream. Especially prevalent on Tiger Comet.
    "'GIMME LEASH!! LEASH!!! LEASH!!!'"
  • Cover Version: One of Jailhouse Rock, albeit renamed to Jailhouse Love.
  • Country Music: An influence on their sound.
  • Dark Reprise: Done with Queen of Clubs on Lo-Fi Classics, with the second appearance having a slowed down tempo, no drums or guitar, and whispered and slow vocals.
  • Epic Rocking: Most noticeable on Lo-Fi Classics, with songs such as Butterfly (7:29), Pluto (9:25), and Easter Egg Hunt (10:18).
  • Gratuitous Japanese: The title of Tiger Comet is rendered as "Neko No Ko Szi-Sei Tora"note
  • Hardcore Punk: Another influence on their sound.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Calico.
    "I want my mom! MOMMY!!!!"
  • Miniscule Rocking: Eye Shadow off Tiger Comet is just 1:44. Superhorse just misses the mark being 2:01.
    • As a whole, Tiger Comet is quite short, being a little over 32 minutes long.
  • Metal Scream: Done a lot, especially on Tiger Comet.
  • Noise Rock: One of many bands back in the 90s Winnipeg noise rock scene.
  • Word Salad Lyrics: Oh yeah. Just for an example, here's the opening lyrics to Carpenter:
Skull cap, used as soup bowl
A carpenter, heel through a cheek bone
Skull cap, used as soup bowl
A carpenter, heel through a cheek bone
    I kissed Wonder Woman
    I kissed Wonder Woman
    I kissed Wonder Woman
    I kissed Wonder Woman
