In the beginning was the tropes.
- Big Good: Need it even be said who?
- Despair Event Horizon: "Lost Cause" is this for Judas (who, out of guilt for his part in Jesus's death, is Driven to Suicide) and Peter (who returns to his mundane life due to feeling unworthy to continue spreading Jesus's teachings.)
- Jesus Was Way Cool: A given for a modern passion play, but especially in "I Never Knew You", which depicts his fights with the Pharisees as a reggae number!
- The Devil Is a Loser: In "The Easy Way" Satan's portrayed as more of an annoying little brother making a bet than the lord of all darkness tempting the savior to sin, with the only thing causing Jesus to raise his voice a little after all his pestering being an accusation of only doing his work for daddy's love. He does reappear later in "Who I Am" to tempt Judas into turning Jesus in... which is the catalyst of the most important part of Jesus's entire plan in the first place.
- Villain Song: "Who I Am" for Satan.
