Tropes

  • Band of Relatives: The band was originally formed by brothers Steven and Tim Batke, with Rob later joining after the release of their debut album, and leaving in the early-to-mid 2010's.
  • Bookends: The title tracks of High Expectations/Low Results open and close the album respectively, and are atmospheric ambient instrumentals.
  • Echoing Acoustics: Frequently in their music, helping with the ethereal feel of their sound.
  • Either/Or Title: High Expectations/Low Results.
  • Epic Rocking: Pretty much common in their discography. "Will You Tell Me Then" (6:37), "Twenty-Three" (8:58), "Gone With the Day" (12:55), "M4, Pt. 2" (8:18), "Sleepwalker" (7:43), "M4, Pt. 1" (9:18), "Of Nature" (8:08), "Alarmed/Lights" (7:40), "Explain" (6:12), "Alarmed" (8:24), "What I'd Love to Hear You Say" (6:13), "Left Here Alone" (9:56), "Thirty-Three" (17:27) and "There Will Be Blood" (6:09).
  • Epic Instrumental Opener: "High Expectations" from High Expectations/Low Results.
  • Fading into the Next Song: The "Thirty-Three" saga in Ostalgia, Vol. 1, divided into five songs but they flow seamlessly, it could be considered a single song.
  • Gratuitous French: The title of "Parler de la Pluie et du Beau Temps", which translates to "talking about rain and good weather".
  • Gratuitous German: "Das Malefitz", which roughly translates to "immoral action".
  • Instrumentals: Due to them being a Post-Rock band, they're bound to have some of this, with a few examples being "High Expectaions", "Parler de la Pluie et du Beau Temps", "Low Results", "M4, Pt. 1", "Meno Mony Falls", and "Das Malefitz".
  • Longest Song Goes Last: The Left Here Alone EP ends with the title track, clocking in at almost ten minutes.
  • New Sound Album: Feel.Love.Thinking.Of incorporates elements of alternative dance and indie rock.
  • Perishing Alt-Rock Voice: Like other bands in the genre, Steve Batke's vocals easily fall into this.
  • Title Track: The two title tracks from High Expectations/Low Results, the two parts of M4 EP, as well Feel.Love.Thinking.Of.
