If you look closer, you'll recognize
I'm not that special, I'm broke inside

Black girl magic
Y'all can't stand it
Y'all can't ban it
Made out like a bandit
They been tryin' hard just to make us vanish
I suggest they put a flag on a whole 'nother planet
— "Django Jane"

Dirty Computer is the third studio album released by American singer Janelle Monáe on April 27, 2018.

This album is a departure from the Metropolis saga last visited in The Electric Lady five years earlier.

Monáe’s mentor, Prince, is a major influence on the album’s sound.

Stevie Wonder makes an appearance on the album.

Alongside the album, Monáe released an “emotion” picture starring herself and Tessa Thompson.

Baby, pink like the tropes you can't hide

  • Album Title Drop: In the album's opening track.
  • Ambiguously Pan: She discusses people's suspicions of her being queer in “I Like That.”
  • Color Motif: The "Make Me Feel" video really plays up the bisexual lighting with all of the purple, pink, and blue throughout.
  • Female Empowerment Song: “Django Jane.”
  • God Is Good: As Stevie explains in his eponymous track.
  • God-Is-Love Songs: “Stevie’s Dream” could count as this.
  • The Idol's Blessing: Stevie Wonder's appearance on "Stevie's Dream" is credited as him giving his "oratory blessings."
  • Intercourse with You: “Take a Byte” and “Screwed.”
  • Sampling:
    • “Django Jane” samples “A Dream” by David Axelrod.
    • “Pynk” samples “Pink” by Aerosmith.
  • The Minneapolis Sound: A few examples are "Crazy, Classic, Life," "Americans," "Screwed," and "most prominently, "Make Me Feel." According to Monáe, Prince worked with her on the entire album before his passing. His influence flows throughout the record.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: Pharrell on "I Got the Juice."
