Buzzov•en (pronounced Buzz-oven) are a Sludge Metal/Thrash Metal band formed out of Salisbury, North Carolina in 1990.

One of the original Sludge groups, Buzzoven differ from their peers in having a much faster paced, hardcore-influenced sound in their overall style.

They are rather infamous for their chaotic, dark, and very violent live shows (often with a lot of vomiting to boot).

Buzzoven manage to be both more unsettling and more accessible than similar bands such as Eyehategod and Grief, often with tighter song structures but often book ended by all kinds of nightmarish sampling mixes.

The only constant member through the group's history is Kirk Fisher. The group is still touring (though this has been delayed due to the coronavirus.)

Current band members:

  • Kirk Fisher: Vocals, guitar
  • Igor: Bass guitar
  • Ashley: Drums

Tropes that apply to this band:

  • Angrish: Like many of his peers, Kirk's vocals consist mostly of tortured screams.
  • Lucky Charms Title: The "•" in their name stems from a logo used on early demo tapes: they'd simply cut the entries for the words "buzz" and "oven" out of a dictionary, pasted them together, and didn't bother removing the bullet-point separating the syllables of "oven".
  • Scary Musician, Harmless Music: Played With: Kirk is much more easygoing and happy now as is the band as a whole but their concerts were often genuinely dangerous compared to their contemporaries, especially in their early years, which was fostered by the severe nihilistic attitudes of the band. Their stories of things done in the past are not for the faint of heart.
  • Shout-Out: Kirk has confirmed that their name is a Melvins reference, combining the name of Melvins singer/guitarist Buzz Osborne with their song "Oven".
  • Sludge Metal: Trope Codifier. While slightly later onto the scene than many of the NOLA bands, Buzzoven were the first band to add grooves and some speed to the sound that created the more punkish atmosphere other bands would follow.
