Left to Right: Corey Britz, Gavin Rossdale, Nik Hughes and Chris Traynor

Don't let the days go by.
Could've been easier on you.
I couldn't change, though I wanted to.
Should've been easier by three,
Our old friend fear and you and me.
Glycerine.

Bush is an Alternative Rock band from London, England. The band formed in 1992 after lead singer Gavin Rossdale met guitarist Nigel Pulsford and recruited bass player Dave Parsons. Drummer Robin Goodridge joined the following year. In 1994, the band released their debut album Sixteen Stone. Two years later, the video for one of the songs from the album, "Glycerine", won the Viewer's Choice award at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The band released three more albums over the next eight years. Shortly after the release of their fourth, Golden State, Nigel Pulsford announced he was retiring from music to spend more time with his family. He was replaced by Helmet guitarist Chris Traynor, but this lineup was short-lived as the band broke up later in 2002. In 2010, Rossdale, Traynor, and Goodridge reunited Bush with Corey Britz replacing Dave Parsons. (Parsons turned down the offer to rejoin the band.) The following year, the band released their first new album in almost a decade, The Sea of Memories.

Tropes pertaining to Bush:

  • Album Title Drop:
    • "Synapse" from Razorblade Suitcase features the line "Razorblade suitcase, all the tricks of the trade."
    • "Baby, Come Home" from The Sea of Memories features the line "I lost myself to the sea of memories."
  • Alliterative Title: The album Sixteen Stone. Also, the songs "Cold Contagious", "Land of the Living", and "She's a Stallion".
  • Cover Version: Covered Joy Division's "A Lonely Place" for the soundtrack to The Crow: City of Angels and The Beatles' "Come Together" as one of two new recordings on Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994–2023
  • Green Aesop: "Disease of the Dancing Cats" is based on the years of dumping mercury in the bay of Minamata, Japan and is rather critical of the government and industry that contributed to the problem. The title refers to ataxia, one of the symptons of mercury poisoning which causes involuntary muscle movements.
  • Miniscule Rocking: Their shortest song, "X-Girlfriend", clocks in at 45 seconds. It's also a Limited Lyrics Song, as the lyrics consist of a Gratuitous German count-in followed by the line "you only call me when you're down" sung eight times.
  • Non-Appearing Title: "Bomb", "Testosterone".
  • Samus Is a Girl: The biker from the "Machinehead" video turns out to be a woman at the end.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Science of Things appears to be a Anthem reference - the main character of the novella mentions "The Science of Things" as his favorite subject in school.
    • "Everything Zen" quotes "Life On Mars?" by David Bowie — "Minnie Mouse has grown up a cow / Dave's on sale again". There's also a nod to Jane's Addiction's "Ted, Just Admit It..." — "There's no sex in your violence".
    • The lyrics to "Glycerine" mention "Strawberry Fields" and make a play on words on the name of the group Stealer's Wheel ("we live in a wheel where everyone steals'" / but when we rise it's like Strawberry Fields")
  • Word Salad Lyrics: Practically a band trademark. The following examples are from Sixteen Stone alone:
    • "Everything Zen":
Rain dogs howl for the century.
      A million dollars at stake.
As you search for your demigod.
And you fake with a saint.
    • "Little Things":
I bleach the sky every night.
Loaded on wrong and further from right.
      Spinning around, two howling moons.
'Cause they're always there, whatever I do.
    • "Glycerine":
I'm never alone, I'm alone all the time.
Are you at one or do you lie?
We live in a wheel where everyone steals.
And when we rise, it's like strawberry fields.
    • "Machinehead":
Deaf, dumb, thirty. Starting to deserve this.
      Leaning on my conscience wall.
Blood is like wine, unconscious all the time.
If I had it all again, I'd change it all.
