More bite than a California zoo, and more pop than a shook-up Mountain Dew.
Got the high score on Pacman at the arcade
I can still get a sunburn sitting in the shade
I'm pretty much the best at acting out charades
If anybody asks me, I'm gonna say
I'm a freakin' delight

Avenue Beat is a three-girl band consisting of Sami Bearden, Savana Santos and Sam Backoff. Self-described as a blend of Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, the three originate from Quincy, Illinois, but are now based in Nashville. Their lyrics deal with a variety of subjects, but are always a little tongue-in-cheek. They rose to fame on TikTok with their song "F2020", which deals with the global pandemic and general disappointments of the year in a humorous manner.

Discography:

Tropes:

  • all lowercase letters: "thank you anxiety" and "i don't really like your boyfriend".
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In "F2020":
    My cat died
And a global pandemic took over my life
And I put out some music that nobody liked
  • Bowdlerise: The music video version of "F2020" has all the swear-words removed or replaced. Since the original lyrics were very explicit, large parts of the song ended up very different.
  • Break-Up Song:
    • "Ruin That for Me" is about still being able to enjoy the things you like after the person you enjoyed them with broke up with you.
    • "i don't really like your boyfriend" has the singer telling her friend to dump her controlling, potentially abusive boyfriend, telling her she deserves better.
  • Childhood Friends: Sam and Savana have known each other since they were babies.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: "F2020" makes very liberal use of the word "fuck" in all its variations.
  • Cover Version: The entirety of "The Quarantine Covers".
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: The boyfriend in "i don't really like your boyfriend" is controlling and won't let the singer's friend go out to party without asking for permission first. The lyrics also say he treats her like his property.
  • Friendship Song: "Be A Bro" is about female friendship and the importance of girls supporting girls.
  • Gosh Darn It to Heck!:
    • "i don't really like your boyfriend" starts with the line "In my unbiased opinion, you're a mothafrickin' catch."
    • Averted hard in "F2020", however.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: "thank you anxiety" is one towards anxiety.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: What the singer in "F2020" wishes she could do regarding the year.
But I think that I am kinda done
Can we just get to 2021?
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: "F2020". There's the obvious "lowkey fuck 2020" in the chorus; the year is also called a "motherfucker" in the same song, and there are mentions of "shit I gotta fix" and "shit y'all have". And then there's this:
Put your hands in the motherfuckin' air if you kinda hate it here and you wish that things would…just like chill, for like two minutes.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: The anxiety in "thank you anxiety".
You're always my plus one at a party when I didn't even invite you.
  • Tough Act to Follow: Discussed at the beginning of "WOMAN", where the singer wonders how to follow up the smash success of "F2020". invoked
I've been sittin' here tryna write a pop song
Tryna follow up that viral shit that popped off
  • What Does She See in Him?: The singer asks her friend as much in "i don't really like your boyfriend".
In my unbiased opinion you're a mothafrickin' catch
Got a body like a model and a heart of gold to match
Every party that we go to, every guy there wants to know you
So please tell me why you choose to date this piece of human trash
