Regarding how popular this game became, memetic moments were bound to crop up overtime. Some are more well-known than others.

• Many of the named NPCs — specifically, Monoko and Poniko/Uboa — have become just as popular as Madotsuki herself on certain Image Boards. Uboa in particular is popular enough to become the subject of multiple memes listed below:
  • aaaaaAAAAAああああ ^{Explanation (spoilers)}  If you manage to activate the event where Poniko turns into Uboa, this sound plays endlessly. Fans have interpreted it as being the noise Uboa makes. Fittingly, its name originated from a type of Japanese noise that represents screaming/shock ("uhoa"). It has also become an Interrupting Meme, where somebody says something with the letter "a" in it, only for it to devolve into Uboa's screaming.
  • Little do you know that Uboa actually has a smooth, English voice and enjoys long walks on the beach, that is after he sends you to an alternate dimension.
  • One that we can take credit for is pointing out that Uboa looks an awful lot like Che Guevara.
  • Things that look like Uboa/Uboa is everywhere ^Explanation  It's become something of a meme to post things that resemble Uboa, most commonly everyday objects. This has led to jokes that the entity could be hiding anywhere at any time.
  • Uboa photoshops ^Explanation Related to the above, it's also popular to take things and photoshop them to resemble Uboa.
• ah not tan neet are not tan neet centimeter ^Explanation  A corruption of the phrase "anata ni anata ni SENTIMENTAL!" sung by Microsoft Sam somehow became associated with the game, especially a version that set it to the Toriningen Party music with a Yume Nikki character dancing in the background. Videos using this sound popped up in YouTube in the late 2000s.
• Within the fandom, "NASU IS VERY EXCITING!" ^note The tendency of fans to highlight NASU's "addictive nature" due to it being endless and "Let's monochrome ourselves!" ^note Most likely a catchphrase among Monoko/Monoe fans in the late 2000s or on Uboachan, originating from this◊ image.
• A drawing of Madotsuki vomiting has circulated around the web and received many spin-offs. These drawings are often used as reaction images for disgusting things or as a "No. Just… No" Reaction.
• In YouTube Poop and similar videos it is somewhat popular to play the infamous credits music when a character falls from a height.
• A fair amount of Puella Magi Madoka Magica fans "adopted" Madotsuki and make fanart of her as a Puella Magi, due to an eerily plausible WMG which says that she was.
• Regarding the sequel, Yume Nikki - Dream Diary: Kikiyama's Seminal Release. ^Explanation  The Steam page for this game calls its predecessor in this way (and bizarrely describes it as "divisively controversial"). Coupled with an early version of the official site that used male pronouns for the author Kikiyama, fans use the wording as an euphemism for "jizz" and state they're ready to receive it.
• The Aztec Rave Monkey has spawned numerous video tributes, such as this remix and this humorous edit.
• Animator gobou's videos, which are sprite animations based on Yume Nikki, have become somewhat popular on the web. In fact, a lot of these videos may have introduced people to the game itself.
  • "Behind There Somewhere" in particular has gained a lot of attention.
  • IT'S A SECRET ^Explanation  The secret stage theme from BattleBlock Theater has often been associated with an animation by gobou that uses the song, which features the characters dancing to it.
• Due to its bizarre nature, the game has sometimes been associated with the Weirdcore aesthetic^note A style of images and videos that replicate the feel of early 2000's Internet, with an odd and mysterious tinge to it. This connection has led to videos like this.
