• There are numerous fan variations of the newspaper comic.
  • The Garfield Randomizer is built on the basis that you can shuffle three random panels together to make a better (if more strange) punchline than the original comics.
  • Silent Garfield emerged after it was mentioned that Jon never really reacts to Garfield's thoughts. It erases Garfield's thought bubbles to let the reader see what really is happening from Jon's perspective. There's also the similar Realfield, which is identical except Garfield is depicted as a photorealistic sketch of a cat, to highlight how weird it is if Jon were to act the way he does towards an actual cat.
  • Garfield Minus Garfield outright erases Garfield himself (and other main characters), leaving Jon by himself and depicting him as a man succumbing to isolation.
  • Square Root of Minus Garfield takes it up a notch by collecting more extensive comic edits.
• "We're BACHELORS, baby."^Explanation A catchphrase said by Garfield at the end of a week of strips circa November 2006.
• Garfielf, a bizarre parody video is often quoted around Garfield discussions around the internet, spawning a whole series of clones made with much the same software. And then that subgenre of parody videos got its own parody video series, which then developed its own devoted following and fan works...
• Fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fans have gotten more interested in Garfield, comparing Jon Arbuckle to Yoshikage Kira (the main villain of Part 4) and making a number of mashups.
• A bizarre tweet by a Twitter user named Virgil Texas claiming that Jim Davis had officially stated that Garfield was genderless resulted in one of the strangest internet debates in history: Whether the (canonically male) Garfield was male, female, or neither.
• "Ed's Dong Repair"◊. ^Explanation One strip has Garfield listen to a doorbell that only goes "Ding". He answers the door to find a repairman wearing a shirt reading "Ed's Dong Repair", which caught on due to the unintentional innuendo.
• "They haven't stopped making frozen pudding pops, have they?" Thank Square Root of Minus Garfield for this one.
• "Now where could my pipe be?" Lasagna Cat's infamous hour-long analysis of the "Pipe Strip" led to it becoming popular and receiving all manner◊ of remakes with◊ other characters◊.
  • Then came a Twitter account changing the punchline in other strips to that. And occasionally the first two panels to a different punchline.
  • Similar memes involving replacing the final panel in Garfield comics with those of others (particularly an edited version of the third panel of the March 24, 1993 strip^* which edits out the real Garfield behind Jon, giving off the appearance that Garfield just spontaneously deflated like a balloon in front of Jon, to Jon's horror, the third panel of this Square Root of Minus Garfield comic^* which edits the July 24, 1980 strip so that Garfield actually kills Jon in response to Jon's command to "Kill the dummy", with Jon's grave edited from a grave meant for Garfield in the October 28, 1982 strip, and Jon throwing Garfield through a window the last panel of the March 29, 1981 strip) became popular in Fall 2020 (the last one in particular has had much more staying power due to Garfield going out the window making a particularly good punchline for many strips).
• Late November 2018 saw many people reminding others to vote Garfield Kart for Steam's Game of the Year◊.
• Because of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure/Garfield mashups gaining popularity, a lot of people had also started making mashups of other video game characters too (Incineroar,◊ Mario, Among Us, Banjo-Kazooie, you named it!).
• Gorefield / I'm Sorry, Jon^Explanation In 2019, meme images and videos started popping up due to at first William Burke, a horror artist, then made more popular by pixel artist LumpyTouch depicting Garfield as an horrifyingly monstrous Eldritch Abomination that has trapped Jon in eternal torment, many of which have been posted in the subreddit r/imsorryjon. Eventually, many characters from other shows have gotten this treatment, too.
  • Some of these images developed memes of their own, including:

• For some reason, a popular edited image is Garfield's face above the words "You are not immune to propaganda"◊.
• Why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food ^Explanation Although the tweet this quote comes from is from 2013, in 2019 it became heavily associated with a Garfield panel where Jon is putting lasagna in his oven.◊
• Gothfield ^Explanation A fan art trend that got popular among the Furry Fandom on Twitter in late 2021, depicting Garfield as a more anthropomorphic, gender-bent character in Goth attire, somewhat reminiscent of the Bowsette trend from 2018.
• Garfield and Sans^Explanation Thanks to Toby Fox having a well-documented history of referencing Garfield in his pre-Undertale output, fans of both the game and the comic strip took to making fan content associating the cat with fellow Fountain of Memes Sans, be it through depicting the pair interacting or depicting one taking the role of the other. The fact that Toby himself uses a Garfield/Sans fusion as his Minecraft skin only amplified the jokes connecting the two characters.
• "Huh. I wonder who that's for." ^Explanation A screencap of Garfield looking at a "No Garfield" sign, accompanied by this caption. Incidentally, Garfield does not say this line in the original footage.
• "FRIDAY AGAIN, GARFIE BABY" ^Explanation An edited panel◊ of Jon hollering the phrase at a grinning Garfield. A Facebook page has sprung up dedicated to posting the image every Friday, in celebration of the coming weekend.
  • "Monday again, Jonny boy" ^Explanation Another edited panel, this one depicting a visibly-deflated Garfield greeting Jon on Monday morning. While the first image is used to celebrate the start of the weekend, this one is used to lament its end.
• GARFIELD! YOU HAD (game mechanic)! ^Explanation An edit of March 24, 1993's last panel which involves a player could have using an game mechanic that they could have used to get out of an sticky situation, but refused due to lacking knowledge about it, such as Burst from Guilty Gear.
• My favorite video games are better than yours / ALL OF THE DAY BRO ^Explanation Comes from a Garfield strip edited into a surreal parody of a Danny and Spot comic, meant as a Take That! to the author, Tom Preston.
• GARFIELD! are you /srs or /j ^Explanation  A panel of Jon holding a deflated Garfield decoy, edited such that the real Garfield is absent and Jon is using tone indicators to ask if Garfield is messing with him or not. Often used jokingly in situations where it's unclear if somebody is being sincere.
• From The Garfield Movie: “I apologize in advance. The eating you are about to see will not be pretty. If you have young children, this would be a good time for them to leave the room.” ^Explanation  What Garfield says before eating lasagna in one scene in the first trailer. This clip has become a big meme on X, describing how people feel about eating their favorite foods.
