In General
- Art Evolution: The avatars started out resembling Mii characters, but with clothing settings and realistic bodies. In 2018, a next generation of avatars came out, which were significantly more detailed and realistic.
- You can still pick whether you want to use a next-gen Avatar or the Original Avatar.
Xbox Next-Gen Avatars
These avatars are used for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
- Artificial Limbs: There is an option for prosthetic limbs.
- Delinquent Hair: One of the hairstyles has one shaved side.
- Demoted to Extra: Unlike the Original Avatars, the new Avatars aren't playable in any games nor do they have any prominence on the console's UI outside of the Social section, and even then you can turn them off.
- One Size Fits All: Unlike the Original Avatars, these avatars can wear any clothing items regardless of gender, meaning you can make an avatar of a man in a sundress.
- Unicorn: Your avatar can ride one!
Xbox Original Avatars
These avatars were used on the Xbox 360 and a number of its games.
- Black Bead Eyes: Dotted eyes are an option.
- Cool Car: The Ava-Car 720 from Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.
- Gender-Restricted Gear: The male and female avatars get different clothing. Averted with the next-gen avatars.
- Skintone Sclerae: Some of the eyes have this.
