Miyako Hoshino is a college student whose extreme shyness has turned her into a shut-in. Her life changes forever when her fifth-grader sister Hinata takes her best friend Hana Shirosaki to visit and Miyako is suddenly hit with a funny, squirmy feeling in her chest that she's never felt before. Although Hana is initially off-put by Miyako's affection, the sweets that Miyako makes are enough to keep her coming back and wearing the cosplay outfits that Miyako hand-makes, and the two find themselves growing closer.
WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me (Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita!) started off as a four-panel yuri manga written by Nanatsu Mukunoki, which began serialization in Comic Yuri Hime in 2016. It received an anime adaptation by Doga Kobo in January 2019. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, which can be viewed here

- Hana initially considers Miyako this, and is generally creeped out by Miyako's obsession with photographing her, but as the series goes on she starts accepting her and gets closer to her as Miyako learns to be less sketchy around her.
- Miyako has her own in the form of Koko, a classmate of hers back in high school who now stalks her.
- Acting for Two: In an In-Universe example, Noa plays the baker Kalmia, the angel queen Calm and Daisy's grandaughter Mari in the Culture Festival's play.
- Bathtub Bonding: Miyako and Hinata often share a bath together as a sign of their close bond. Hinata has also shared a bath with Hana and Noa several times. And in Episode 8, Koko and Yu also bathe together.
- Big Sister Worship: Hinata absolutely adores her older sister despite Miyako being a shut-in with no friends.
- Bittersweet Ending: The play that the girls put on ends with Anemone becoming a human only to find that Daisy had already grown old and died in her absence. However, Anemone and Daisy's granddaughter Mari fall in love, and when they die of old age they're reunited with Daisy as angels.
- Butt-Monkey:
- Miyako is the butt of many of the jokes, from her little sister's (unintentional) physical abuse to her mom taking the french toast she spent all night preparing.
- Koyori suffers from physical pain from trying to do anything and is completely helpless at times.
- Cassandra Truth: At the beginning of episode 6, Hana, Hinata, and Noa ask Miyako where she was going, but they don't believe her when she says she's going to her university to turn in an assignment. When they ask again and she she once again says she's going to class, all three are shocked, as they thought she was a shut-in NEET. Naturally they decide to follow her to her college.
- Clingy Sleepers: Hinata loves Mya-nee so much, she will cling to her like a tick every time they sleep together. Because it is impossible to tell who else is on the bed while asleep, that means Hinata will cling like a tick to whoever is sleeping in the same bed as her.
- Closet Otaku: Miyako designs nice cosplay outfits, but is too embarrassed to be seen by anyone wearing them.
- Cool Big Sis: Miyako shares a close bond with Hinata and even acts as a motherly figure to her when their mom isn't around. Miyako also becomes a big sister figure to Hana and Noa as Hana calls her Onee-chan.
- Cringe Comedy: Miyako's complete helplessness in social situations is the basis for much of the show's comedy.
- Crush Blush: There are multiple instances of this with Noa towards Hinata and Miyako towards Hana, as well as over a hundred of Miyako towards Hana.
- In chapter 40 of the manga Hana blushes when a dressed-up Miyako smiles at her; she notices it but doesn't understand why.
- She does it again and gets flustered when she and Miyako go to a photo booth together in chapter 43, only to find out it's a Couple's booth and the last photo pose asks them to give a kiss on a cheek. Both Miyako and Hana end up not doing it and just blush bright red while looking at anywhere but each other.
- Then again in chapter 44 when Miyako gives Hana her scarf when they are out in the snow. Hana blushes while snuggling into the scarf, commenting that's Miyako's sweet smell is one she likes.
- Another brief one happened in chapter 55, after Hana clung to Miyako when being scared by a dog. Once she realises, she blushes and and becomes very awkward with Miyako before the focus is taken away.
- It once again occurs in chapter 59 when Hana meets a dressed-up Miyako for a day out with Hinata and Noa. When she sees her, she blushes and is stunned into silence, and stutters when forcing a greeting and commenting that Miyako looked very pretty.
- This is followed by chapter 60, where Miyako smiles at Hana for calling her a friend and promises to give Hana gifts normally. Blushing, Hana's eyes goes wide and clamps her mouth closed to fidget in silence.
- Cuteness Proximity: Noa does this towards a dog in episode 8. In the same episode, Matsumoto's younger sister also subjects Hinata, Noa, and Hana to this when she gives a adorable "thank you" to Miyako.
- "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: Both the opening and ending songs are sung by the VAs of Hinata, Hana, Noa, Kanon and Koyori, singing as Wataten☆Five.
- Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Hinata and Hana display these when Miyako gets a little too creepy around them, such as when she shows up outside Hinata's room wearing shades and a surgical mask, while breathing heavily, in order to avoid talking to Hana face to face. Hinata headbutts her, then screams for her sister, not realizing she just attacked Miyako.
- Fantasy Sequence: The entire culture festival play in Episode 12 is shown as an actual fantasy story instead of children putting on a musical.
- Flash Step: Two overly eager clothing store employees do this to Miyako in episode 8 when she establishes eye contact with them. One of them later does it with Noa, who handles the situation much better than Miyako did.
- Genki Girl: Hinata is a rather sporadic fifth grader. Her introduction has her excitedly jumping up and landing on top Miyako while she was sleeping. She then immediately leaves for school afterwards.
- Hikikomori: Miyako often spends her time indoors, although she does occasionally show up at her college.
- Improbably Female Cast: There are no named male characters, and even the number of male background characters can be counted on one hand. Although Hinata mentions her dad in an early chapter, he never appears.
- Insane Troll Logic: When Hinata sees Miyako interacting with Yuu in episode 8, she wonders if Miyako created a secret little sister behind her back. She then wonders if Noa and Hana are also secret little sisters, before concluding that she was now Yuu's big sister. When Koko, Yuu's real older sister, shows up and hears that she's now also Hinata's big sister, she is delighted at somehow becoming related to Miyako thanks to all the confusion from Hinata's thought processes.
- In-Series Nickname: Mya-nee is Hinata's name for Miyako, and she uses it so much that it's spread to her entire class. Even her teacher lets it slip at one point!
- Interspecies Romance: The play the girls put on for the culture festival involves a romance between Anemone, an angel, and Daisy, a human.
- Loophole Abuse: Miyako's mother gives her some money to go buy clothes with at a local mall. However, she's scared off by two employees who were all too eager to help her. She then decides to buy some fabric instead, with the intention of sewing her own clothing. Unfortunately for her, this only makes her mother angry once she and Hinata return home.
- Love at First Sight: Miyako is smitten by Hana the moment Hinata brought her home. Judging by how unfamiliar Miyako is with the "squirming, funny" feeling in her chest, it's likely her First Love too.
- Mayfly–December Romance: The reason why Daisy ultimately rejects Anemone's love. Sure enough, in the time it took for Anemone to become a human and return to Daisy's bakery, Daisy had already grown old and died.
- Musical Episode: The majority of Episode 12 is devoted to the girls' play, which turns into this.
- No Social Skills: Miyako is very shy and rarely goes outside. Hana only "befriends" her out of pity after Hinata tells her that she has no friends.
- Not What It Looks Like: Noa and Hana enter Miyako's room in episode 6, and sees Koko lying down in front of them, with Hinata holding a bat over her. They initially assume Hinata beat up Koko with said bat, but in reality Koko just accidentally tripped on the bat.
- Product Placement: One scene in the manga shows Miyako reading Yuri Hime.
- Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Kanon and Koyori have been at each others' sides since they were born, and its clear that their mutual affection runs very deep (with Kanon being the only one willing to rely on the utterly hopeless Koyori). When Noa asks Koyori if her and Kanon are more like sisters than friends, Koyori responds by saying that Kanon is more than a sister or a friend, although she doesn't really understand what that means yet.
- Sick Episode: The first half of Episode 7 features Hinata coming down with a fever and Miyako taking care of her.
- Supreme Chef: Miyako's sweets are so good that Hana is willing to tolerate cosplaying in order to eat them, and even considers them better than the sweets that popular bakeries make. Miyako is also implied to be a great chef in general besides making sweets.
- Those Two Girls: Whenever the girls go on an outing, Kanon and Koyori are often seen on their own date in the background.
- Through His Stomach: Miyako "tames" Hana by giving her sweets. Though somewhat disgusted by Miyako's behaviors, the sweets are so good she's willing to put up with wearing cosplay outfits Miyako made.
- We Want Our Jerk Back!: In Chapter 78, Miyako has a sudden realization that making Hana sweets in exchange for cosplay photos is actually pretty sketchy, and decides to stop asking Hana to cosplay. Hana finds herself unnerved by Miyako suddenly acting "normal", and Miyako starts suffering the same withdrawal symptoms that Hinata had when she had to stay away from Miyako for a day, so Hana asks Miyako to start taking cosplay photos of her again.
- Wise Beyond Their Years: Kanon and to a lesser extent Noa are much more mature than their friends. This is lampshaded in Chapter 45, when the girls get split up at a Christmas event. Noa and Kanon decide to wait underneath a huge tree and try to call the other girls' phones; their panel is labeled "How adults deal with things." Hinata and Koyori, meanwhile, panic and immediately conclude that Noa and Kanon were kidnapped; their panel is labeled "How children react."
