Manga / Transfer Student Storm Bringer

Go To

Transfer Student Storm Bringer is a Korean Webcomic by Gangnengyi about a high-school student named Ju Ingong (which literally means "protagonist" in Korean). While he is just an average guy, his scary appearance causes his peers to immediately assume that he is a violent delinquent and makes all the local jjangs (the Korean equivalent of banchos, delinquent gang-leaders in schools) challenge him... at which point he always gets beaten up and bullied afterwards, forcing him to transfer to another school.

That is until the beginning of the story, when in desperation he tries to bluff his way through an encounter with a jjang... and accidentally wins the fight. This in turn picks the interest of the other jjangs of the school, utterly destroying any hope he might have had for a peaceful school life.

Examples:

  • Abhorrent Admirer:
    • Yunghee Lee appears to be this towards Ju due to a misunderstanding about her gender.
    • To a smaller degree Choi Wanseo, the first jjang Ju defeated. He sticks to him as his self-declared number one underling and keeps getting him into trouble because he honestly believes Ju is a strong and wise fighter prodigy who always has everything under control.
    • Later on, a much more serious Played for Drama version appeared: Kang Changwon, who used to be friends with Yeonhee and Dongmin, before he turned all Yandere and everything went downhill.
  • The Ace: Ahn Dongmin, a handsome, friendly honor student who also happens to be the single best fighter in the school as well.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the Reboot version, Ju Ingong is an extremely skillful and powerful fighter who can hand Ahn Dongmin of all people his own ass... but suffers from bad luck way more. Life is fair.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Downplayed, but Ahn Dongmin is considerably colder, more cocky and cruel toward the people he deems below him in the Reboot version, compared to the Nice Guy he was. He is very nice to Ingong once he finds out that the latter deserves his respect, though.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Choi Wanseo, who is already not very strong, is considered downright wimpy and unworthy of respect in Reboot.
  • Alternate Universe: Another version of this manga is Reboot, which tells the story of a Ju Ingong who is now the strongest fighter, period... but is very, very unlucky.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Ju Ingong first met Ahn Dongmin in... the freaking bathroom, and the latter did not have any toilet paper left. Ingong gave him the only paper-thingy he had at the time, but that was enough for Dongmin to consider it a debt he had to pay. This is also the reason Dongmin is an ally with Ingong from the start.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Ahn Dongmin is a Nice Guy, cheerful and smiley, and can actually look like a pushover at times when it comes to dealing with Yeonhee... but he's not considered the strongest fighter in the school for nothing. In fact, mess with him, and you can kiss your life goodbye.
  • Breakout Character: Unlike the original story, Reboot mainly revolves around the fight between Ingong and Dongmin, who was the only person he never fought before.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Most character have this, for the sake of convenience. The exceptions are Ju Ingong with brown hair and black eyes, Lee Seungjae with gray hair and red eyes, Kang Changwon with white hair and black eyes.
  • The Dreaded:
    • The principal is a gigantic, muscle-bound monster that makes even the toughest jjangs scram in terror.
    • At least until Ju not only accidentally knocks him out three times, but causes such trauma while doing so that the man is reduced to a shivering wreck the moment he sees him.
    • Believe it or not, Ahn Dongmin. He is, after all, an insanely strong fighter.
  • Face of a Thug: This is exactly what strikes the entire story to start. Had Ju Ingong had a normal, non-scary face, things would have gone drastically different for him.
  • Fiery Redhead: Both Kim Daeyong and Lee Yeonhee (although her hair is sometimes considered pink) qualify, combined with Red Eyes, Take Warning that match their hair.
  • Generation Xerox: In the epilogue, Ju Ingong's teenage son not only looks just like his father, he uses the exact same bluffs when he is attacked by a bunch of delinquents.
  • Informed Attribute: June-haein, the jjang of class 4, is supposedly speaking in a thick gangster accent... that completely disappears after his first appearance.
  • Invincible Incompetent: Ju Ingong, full stop. Whenever he is not trying to be a Guile Hero, the conflicts around him are routinely resolved by luck, third party interference or simply his legs getting tangled up in a way it looks like he kicked/kneed his opponent on purpose.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Ingyu Hwang, as well as the Principal are giant musclebound fighters, and while they are more often than not serve as butt monkeys, they are still considered to be some of the most dangerous fighters in a straight up fight.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: On the other hand there is Ahn Dongmin, a typical Bishounen with twig-like hands who can catch their punches without breaking a sweat... and he actually defeated Hwang Ingyu effortlessly.
