The beginning of a hilarious relationship.

For centuries, mankind was plagued by demons. The ruler of the demons is a sadistic Great Witch named Milia who aspires to take over the world. When looking into her crystal ball, instead of seeing a future where she was the absolute ruler, she instead discovers that she is slain by a hero three years in the future.

To subvert the prophecy, Milia decides to personally eliminate the main threat to her rule, but when she discovers the hero, Jin, she instantly falls head-over-heels for him. Making it even more complicated for herself, Milia joins Jin's party with Jin himself being unaware that his nemesis is standing right there beside him.

RABUKOME QUEST is a comedy/fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Mmk, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2022.

This manga provides examples of:

  • Cassandra Truth: Milia's familiar explains how his master is a greatly feared witch with blood on their hands, but Jin refuses to believe him. When his father reveals that the Great Witch's name is Milia, Jin thinks it's just a coincidence.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Jin has been friends with the princess for years.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Milia becomes jealous of the princess's feelings for Jin.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Milia betrays her loyal familiar at least once in favor of Jin.
  • Disappeared Dad: Jin's father vanished before the start of the story, leaving behind only his sword. He reappears in Chapter 20 when Jin and his party venture into the woods where he disappeared.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Milia often finds herself so infatuated with Jin, she completely zones out even when in the middle of a fight.
  • Dramatic Irony: Jin sets out to slay the Great Witch, but little does he realize, Milia is the witch herself.
  • Good Is Dumb: Jin would've died from his own stupidity several times if not for Milia's infatuation for him.
  • Hired to Hunt Yourself: An accidental version. Jin recruits Milia in his party to slay the Great Witch, completely unaware they are one and the same.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Milia has managed to kill anyone who entered her castle, and so nobody in the human world knows her true name or what she even looks like. A WANTED poster in Jin's home village depicts her as a hideous monster, and so nobody recognizes her as the Great Witch when she shows up together with Jin.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Milia makes several stupid choices due to her affection for Jin.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Also goes hand-in-hand with Hot Witch, but Milia herself has a large bust and wears a black dress translucent enough for her navel to be seen. She also wears long black gloves.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Implied. Milia got wrapped up with Jin in the first place because her crystal ball told her she would die by his hand in three years' time.
  • Treacherous Advisor: Jin recruits Milia in the hope of learning fighting techniques from her, not realizing she's the witch he's supposed to slay.
  • Villain Protagonist: Milia is the one who commands the demons who have been plaguing humanity for hundreds of years and starts the plot by trying to take out the Hero when her plans of world conquest were threatened. However, she ends up falling in love with him.
  • Wham Episode: Two-fold in chapter 20: not only is Jin's father revealed to be alive, but Milia finally spills the beans on her being the Great Witch Jin was destined to kill.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Milia had never fallen for any of her enemies in the 400 years of her life so when she first meets Jin, she is completely bewildered by the sudden palpitations in her heart.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Milia chases down and murders a young boy who unfortunately stumbled upon a sculpture of Jin and his younger brother that she had made.
